Orks in 6th Edition: Da Times they are a' Changin'

Hello Everyone,

General Chaos here with the State of the Waaagh! address. Assaults are dead! Well lets back that up, they are not dead but they took a big kick in the tail end for us Ork players. Multi-Assaults suffer losing that extra attack, getting Bolter shells in the face from overwatch can really hurt in assaults, and without some very specific movement and placement losing that all important Power Klaw Nob can be devastating. Makes me want to take my Choppa and go home. But us Orks are good at one thing besides Krumpin' ead' and that is we can adapt.

New Daemons in 40k Follow-up: Complete with rules, pics, prices and video

Old School here with a massive post meant to cover everything you need to know on the new Daemons as we can get it from the other side of the pond. First, I will cover the photos, then the prices, then the rules, then the video and then I will wrap up with a few thoughts. Here we go:

New Daemon Minis and Rules Pics & Video! 40k and Fantasy Updates! Plastic Plaguebearers and Grinders in Fantasy!

Old School here with some breaking news and a video from across the pond with a look at new daemon models. It looks like the soul grinder is going to fantasy, some existing units like flamers have changed and some new units have been added to both 40k and Fantasy. Also we got the plastic Plague Bearers we always wanted. The video may be taken down eventually today, so get it while it is how below. Also are photos of the new models:

Video Battle Report - Destroyer Cult of the Red Harvest vs. Dark Mechdar

Hello Everyone,

General Chaos here with another Video Battle Report. Tonight we got my Necron - Destroyer Cult of the Red Harvest vs. Jon's Dark Mechdar. We played at 1850, the mission was Relic, and the deployment was Vanguard Strike. Jon wanted to see how the Dark Eldar are doing in 6th edition.

Some positive findings -

Mass splinter fire is really good. Warriors squads got much better. 10 man Scourges units with Shard Carbines and 4 Splinter Cannons can dump out some firepower.

Razorwings are deadly good anti-tank and anti-infantry fliers.

Don't really need Flicker fields now.

Some negative findings -

The Raiders more resistant to glances but if you get a AP 1 or AP 2 to hit into them they go down really easy by getting plus 2 or 3 on the damage table.

Unit inside open-topped  transports taking strength 4 hits on an explosion result, instead of strength 3 for being open-topped in 5th edition, you will lose some of those toughness 3 models.

Overwatch is very unkind to lightly armoured assault units.

+5 Feel No Pain is a big downside when most weapons can cut right thru your spandex leotards.

Jon is planning on focusing on the Dark Eldar and adding in some Psychic powers with some allied Farseers. Personally, I think Dark Eldar will be a real threat on the tournament scene.

Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

Yellow Necron Barges: Big Guns Never, Ever Tire!

Old School here with another addition to my Yellow Necrons. These barges typically fill out my heavy support section (though I will be trying out the Doom Scythe and the Monolith now that I own them). Let's take a look at my entries for this week's painting challenge.

Tau 6th Edition: First Impressions

Sammy here and like all tau players I have been just praying that my favorite army would get something in the new rules to help them out. While indeed they did get some help, it was not in the way I expected. As follows I will detail a few of the bonuses that I think may bring back Tau as a playable and possibly more competitive army. I do recognize however that as no local tournaments have been run yet this all just on a observational basis.

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 4: Brothers in Arms

Old School here, if you plan to take the Dark Angels as your main detachment or as an ally, there are some great options now and we are Brothers in Arms with some that offer us a good boost. I will be covering Brothers in Arms in this post and will follow this up with a very brief post later concerning other allied options, but that post may not come for some time. As always with these early 6th edition posts, I am not an expert and I think there is much to be learned from discussion as this is a new game for all of us at this point. I don't want to waste your time building it up any more, so here we go ...

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 3: The Best of the Rest

Old School here with another post for Dark Angels in 6th Edition. So far we have covered Deathwing and Ravenwing. Today's post is about the rest of the book (at least from the perspective of units I have used on the table). Here is where we delve into territory where our old codex may be screwy in terms of options and points cost, so while I will lightly tough on allies below, it's not the focus. Allies will be part of the next post. Also throughout this post will be images from other hobbyists with great DA models, most are linked! Here we go ...

6th Edition Imperial Armour FAQ: Allies

Old School here with a quick post with news that Forge World just dropped their 6th Edition Allies FAQ, which covers the armies from Imperial Armour.

Seeing this along with the first paragraph you will find in the FAQ really just tells me that FW will be handling the FAQ over to 6th Edition for their units, which really implies that, much like the editions past, IA will be up to discretion of the players or organizers rather than a permanent and fixed part of the game.

I could be wrong, but that is my two cents. Here is the link to the FAQ.

Canoptek Spyders Conversions, Bender Style!

Old School here with another kill point for the Painting Challenge! This week I have painted by Canoptek Spyder conversions. You may remember these "Bender-esque" droids from a post I wrote earlier this year (before the new spyders kits dropped) and while they may look kind of funny, I do like them much more after painting them. Let's take a look at these critters.

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 2: Ravenwing

Old School here with the second part of my series on Dark Angels in 6th Edition. Once again, I am adding my thoughts so far. I am not trying to come down from the mountain, rather I am also looking for good feedback to help everyone. So let's get straight into it:

Weekly Painting Challenge Write Up, Week 1 Million!

Old School here with another weekly round up from our Painting Challenge contributors! It is incredible that it has been going this long and as I look back, I think I am going to have to count the KP (or VP now) to see how far we have gotten as a collective!

Dark Angels in 6th Edition Part 1: Deathwing!

Old School here to talk about the Dark Angels based on my 6th Edition games with the codex and some thoughts I have looking at the FAQ and the new rules. I will cover the codex (and allies) in a series of posts. This will be the first post.

I will cover Deathwing Terminators and some general thoughts in this post and then Ravenwing units and some units I generally used/ plan to use now and what has effected them, our psykers and allies (both who we can take to help us and where we are likely to be used by others) in a series of posts each day until I am done. If you are a fan of the Unforgiven, it may have been a while since you have read anything modern to such an extent! I hope to convey knowledge that may be useful, while not coming off as an expert, because, it is early in 6th edition and we are all new right now!

365 Days of Gaming!

Old School here to help get the word out about something one of our friends and fellow author is doing that is not only one hell of a challenge, but something I think will be interesting to see progress as a spectator. Rhellion from Rhellion's Tabletop will be attempting 365 days of gaming. Here is his announcement:

The Grotesque Project: Subject #10, The Carver!

The time has come for me to reveal the final member of the Grotesque squad I created for Wolfson. The final subject is called the Carver! He is a pretty simple conversion. Let's take a look.

6th Ed Video Battle Report - Destroyer Cult of the Red Harvest vs. Space Wolves

Hello Everyone,

General Chaos here with another Video Battle Report. This was a 1850 point game between my Necrons and Jon's Space Wolves. I was revisiting the Destroyer Wing to see how it stands up in the 6th edition and the results are promising. There are couple things going for this list now in 6th edition. Preferred enemy now lets your re-roll ones in the Assault phase and the Shooting phase for both to hit and to wound. This makes Destroyers really good at taking down MEQ. Necrons warriors are the ultimate anti-tank units now. Destroyer Lords can join a unit and pass on the preferred enemy rule to the whole unit. Add in the Triarch stalkers targeting array and you can put down some serious firepower. Here are the lists we used. One mistake right off the bat was the Space Wolf Rune Priest took powers from the wrong discipline but it wasn't game changing. Here are the lists we used and the link below. Thanks for watching.

The Iron Hands Biker Gang! 1% in the Flesh!

Old School here and since I missed the weekly Painting Challenge kill point round up, I am giving Mordian7th a post for me to highlight his Iron Hands bikers. These models are great and while I don't think that Old M7 is going to go Gorgon on us, I do this this is a great side project for a man painting an all white army!

Necrons in 6th Edition: Thoughts and Observations

Old School here to provide my thoughts and observations from my table-top experience so far in 6th with the Necrons and some ideas I have from reading over the rules and FAQs. I want to say up front that I am obviously not an expert on 6th as none of us are, but hey, I'll throw my two cents in and maybe get some ideas back from you in return!

I will cover some of our weapons, some of our units and some things that are new to us in 6th that may be useful.

6th Edition Video Battle Report - Orks vs. Space Wolves

Hello Everyone,

General Chaos here with another Video Battle Report. This was a 1500 point battle between my Orks and Jon's Space Wolves. This was my first game using the 6th edition rule set so if we get somethings wrong I apologize in advance. Jon took his standard Wolves list while I took a little bit of everything to test out the new rules. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching.

The Grotesque Files: Subject #8, The Cutter!

Old School here with a break in the 6th Edition coverage to introduce you to Subject #8 in the Kabal of the Obsidian Rose Grotesque Squad I am building for Wolfson! This one is called the cutter! The docs gave this one a time-bomb in his heart, a belly of grabbing, stabbing spines and a couple of hydrolic cutting blades for hands!

Imperial Guard: Thoughts of life in 6th so far.

Well, we all have had time to look and read over parts of 6th, and I will give you a few opinions on what I think so far on how it has affected the Imperial Guard.

6th Edition: What It Means For Eldar And Grey Knights

SeerK here to have a sit down with all of you about 6th edition and how its affecting the Eldar and the Grey Knights. After reading the rulebook for the few hours that I have had it, I have some thoughts and observations to share about my favorite army and my new army. Wolfson will be bringing you coverage of the Dark Eldar and Eldar as well. I will be going more in depth on the Eldar and Dark Eldar back over on Craftworld Lansing also.

Let's take a look at my thoughts so far ...
