<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6qCZvdutuqE/W7pAX41uHjI/AAAAAAAASas/TEK5WskfLlkZu3e0TA0ZENCRT402enY5QCLcBGAs/s1600/LoS1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="970" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6qCZvdutuqE/W7pAX41uHjI/AAAAAAAASas/TEK5WskfLlkZu3e0TA0ZENCRT402enY5QCLcBGAs/s320/LoS1.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<br />
Look, I already know what you are saying: "TJ shut up, bro, it's a Kytan." and you'd probably be right, which is why I am posting these blue-tac fittings to get some advice from the creative souls on the blogosphere (well, for those of us left).<br />
<a name='more'></a>So when the Lord of Skulls first came out, I said I would make a Renegade Knight out of it. I said it in public, on this very blog and I am the type of Heretic with enough honor to put my axe where my mouth is (wait ...), so I am making it.<br />
<br />
I actually dislike the rules for the Kytan completely and you probably cannot change my mind and, well, the addition of a Renegade Knight is way more common for the kinds of lists I run for my World Eaters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z57oSNRnwdk/W7pAY6difsI/AAAAAAAASaw/YK9atqJDIWwvylK0FI-BxjOLCfaxGXwogCLcBGAs/s1600/LoS2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="833" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z57oSNRnwdk/W7pAY6difsI/AAAAAAAASaw/YK9atqJDIWwvylK0FI-BxjOLCfaxGXwogCLcBGAs/s320/LoS2.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
First thing first, I used all of the civil engineering videos on Youtube to design longer legs for the knight titan kit using defiler parts, parts of coat hangers and a healthy amount of green stuff to fill gaps. Then I decorated the legs in Skull Cannon bits, which are surprisingly cheap on Ebay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uCk_g5nGq0s/W7pAZ_0SJKI/AAAAAAAASa0/Y_J-TbmtzYEVu7XIC2R2UhFV9BFTdabngCLcBGAs/s1600/LoS3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1199" data-original-width="889" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uCk_g5nGq0s/W7pAZ_0SJKI/AAAAAAAASa0/Y_J-TbmtzYEVu7XIC2R2UhFV9BFTdabngCLcBGAs/s320/LoS3.jpg" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I loaded the torso onto the legs, I discovered that the single leg would likely break over the course of many games (which would be the only time the torso would be attached because I plan to magnetize it and also be able to use it as a Lord of Skulls). That caused me to go in and grab a wall section and make it part of the basing. I glued some debris in around the knee as if it was projecting outward as the titan crashed into the ruined building to help it make it look less like he is tripping.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YGTyBagWgss/W7pAa9TrP4I/AAAAAAAASa4/LlkRpQuZcts_gTHh7TuWHLeQqfaP2oIWgCLcBGAs/s1600/LoS4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YGTyBagWgss/W7pAa9TrP4I/AAAAAAAASa4/LlkRpQuZcts_gTHh7TuWHLeQqfaP2oIWgCLcBGAs/s320/LoS4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I am currently crafting leg armor for the upper thighs, some titan heads for his belt, a hatch to seal the hole for his tail and other parts I know will be a part of the model.<br />
<br />
I am also looking for a cool way to mound a weapon on his other arm and not have him look like Mega Man.<br />
<br />
For a missile rack option, I blue tacked the half-face of a missile launcher to his shoulder area and can do the same for the stubber or melta too, but I wanted some feedback. If the missiles work there, then I would build a housing around it to make it real.<br />
<br />
So what do you think so far. What is it missing, what could it use? Is it just a damn Kytan and I should go ahead and accept it ... you tell me ... please.<br />

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y-arKdqQsKY/W7o2OrnfZVI/AAAAAAAASZQ/YBX_NNaQMYEHXw5uFlSFJjQdiAGNJgtJgCLcBGAs/s1600/Shagmadroth1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y-arKdqQsKY/W7o2OrnfZVI/AAAAAAAASZQ/YBX_NNaQMYEHXw5uFlSFJjQdiAGNJgtJgCLcBGAs/s320/Shagmadroth1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A friend/ client commissioned me to make a Realm of Fire based Shaggoth conversion. He picked out the Gargant and the Magmadroth kits and told me to go for it. So With that guidance and a request to use a "huge fricken axe," I went at it. This was a lot of fun to build and I want to share it with you. The steps I took are below:<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kppJntsNhpc/W7o2QbPS8cI/AAAAAAAASZU/7fQ5OUAXrdQySKdc6dBOlIzkqh4CoZvDgCLcBGAs/s1600/Shagmadroth2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kppJntsNhpc/W7o2QbPS8cI/AAAAAAAASZU/7fQ5OUAXrdQySKdc6dBOlIzkqh4CoZvDgCLcBGAs/s320/Shagmadroth2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A quick walk around the model before we look at how it was made ... the idea was to make it big enough to lead the plastic dragon ogres, but also not so big it becomes abusive or unplayable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FVyGro8IoME/W7o2SGX0C4I/AAAAAAAASZY/T2koluhzb_kt_w7SidFwukwY3rbvOrbFwCLcBGAs/s1600/Shagmadroth3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="744" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FVyGro8IoME/W7o2SGX0C4I/AAAAAAAASZY/T2koluhzb_kt_w7SidFwukwY3rbvOrbFwCLcBGAs/s320/Shagmadroth3.jpg" width="198" /></a></div>
<br />
When we began discussing the conversion, I told my buddy that we are basically dependent on the way the two models would join and how they scale together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wWCShBCnDYc/W7o2V4BWhFI/AAAAAAAASZc/dJNbeAbR-6wTJ4vcmhaHKX1pQal6VspIgCLcBGAs/s1600/Shagmadroth4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="846" data-original-width="1200" height="225" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wWCShBCnDYc/W7o2V4BWhFI/AAAAAAAASZc/dJNbeAbR-6wTJ4vcmhaHKX1pQal6VspIgCLcBGAs/s320/Shagmadroth4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Luckily, that was not a problem. My initial take on it was that he would have to lose a couple pounds in the belly, but this would work like a dream.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nwbYWMvgBik/W7o2XmEY7vI/AAAAAAAASZg/cx6FovnvwOgtajn4cRtukz1d041Gg_NJQCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nwbYWMvgBik/W7o2XmEY7vI/AAAAAAAASZg/cx6FovnvwOgtajn4cRtukz1d041Gg_NJQCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut the belly, which wasn't a big deal because I would need to add a gut plate to match the look of the Dragon Ogre models he will be fielded with. I found that the Chaos Chariot had a perfect Gutplate and luckily I had one in my bits box.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1sHnh0bvhGA/W7o2YgR7KgI/AAAAAAAASZk/A95q1BGOWGQrGv6SGnQrdL5puQBYg23uQCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="754" data-original-width="1200" height="201" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1sHnh0bvhGA/W7o2YgR7KgI/AAAAAAAASZk/A95q1BGOWGQrGv6SGnQrdL5puQBYg23uQCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The gutplate needed a little work. Parts of the plate had to be swapped around and some gaps needed to be filled. Also, the Giant axe I burrowed from the Khorne Bloodthirster kit, needed to be less Khorne affiliated (khorne doesn't like wizards even if they have axes ... and are ogres ... and fight in melee really well ... and well, you get the idea!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5EpQlHtRKrk/W7o2Zy-V3KI/AAAAAAAASZo/RJFe15ElrpIRCJQzgx2Yor2NwNxypYNugCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5EpQlHtRKrk/W7o2Zy-V3KI/AAAAAAAASZo/RJFe15ElrpIRCJQzgx2Yor2NwNxypYNugCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I sraped the symbol and then attacked the surface with the different sizes of drill and then scraped some more until it looked like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lR9rGtUtWsY/W7o2a4EilKI/AAAAAAAASZs/ZKXEy9kPSD8aAd1xSG4dp1rfPktaleHPACLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lR9rGtUtWsY/W7o2a4EilKI/AAAAAAAASZs/ZKXEy9kPSD8aAd1xSG4dp1rfPktaleHPACLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I then realized that the axe couldn't be wielded in two hands as it existed because I would have to reposition the entire shoulder, spine and shoulders of the gargant and while that is possible, it would get expensive for my client. Instean, I had to make it one-handed ... and swap the hands out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9T1nCp8c7bE/W7o2cIHfU2I/AAAAAAAASZw/iBzZtx_8Ke0p03Z1yveelQDE4xDFlHVKwCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="938" data-original-width="1200" height="249" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9T1nCp8c7bE/W7o2cIHfU2I/AAAAAAAASZw/iBzZtx_8Ke0p03Z1yveelQDE4xDFlHVKwCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Chop, chop, chop ... I feel like Khorne is missing out on all this chopping.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1RirI3ROyMA/W7o2cjy75bI/AAAAAAAASZ0/iVqqIack6B0IAzVMKM9UfNg_ynd2GA-LQCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="919" data-original-width="1200" height="245" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1RirI3ROyMA/W7o2cjy75bI/AAAAAAAASZ0/iVqqIack6B0IAzVMKM9UfNg_ynd2GA-LQCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
While I was sorting that out, I also needed to smooth out some details. I added the gut plate, then added a cummerbund for the Shaggoth because he plans to go to a great number of charity dinners and weddings (the brayherds are known for their fancy events). I laid down miliput because it goes down nice and smooth and provides a great base for detailed Green Stuff work later.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MnRcVqYt4FE/W7o2dlEuAZI/AAAAAAAASZ4/kmmlcDxNyD4ukoJM0J-g8UxnUClnazr2QCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MnRcVqYt4FE/W7o2dlEuAZI/AAAAAAAASZ4/kmmlcDxNyD4ukoJM0J-g8UxnUClnazr2QCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP7.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I then had to start worrying about his other hand. I waffled here a lot. Is he casting a spell? Do I need to sculpt lightning? Can he just be fist-pumping? Maybe he is eating? BINGO! He is eating a dwarf!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-38LQegTYh4Y/W7o2eocgZ6I/AAAAAAAASaA/a2W_LxATdWIErevwYSyBnprq1yoRMBomwCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1050" data-original-width="1200" height="280" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-38LQegTYh4Y/W7o2eocgZ6I/AAAAAAAASaA/a2W_LxATdWIErevwYSyBnprq1yoRMBomwCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The Gargant comes with this peasant fellow (I shouldn't assume his economic status, but let's face it, rich guys aren't getting eaten by giant guys. Just sayin') and anyway, the peasant had to go. This Shagmadroth (love this name) eats spicy food, like fireslayers!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v8hsj0bnOnQ/W7o2fW4tHCI/AAAAAAAASaE/514x2s-UJ2Amb682Jc2expbCvTJbjES8ACLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1002" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v8hsj0bnOnQ/W7o2fW4tHCI/AAAAAAAASaE/514x2s-UJ2Amb682Jc2expbCvTJbjES8ACLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP9.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
The slayers that come in the box with the Magmadroth actually include a dwarf with seperate legs and arms perfectly positioned for chopping at a wrist or ready to chop fingers!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QJMwBu0H5t8/W7o2gHCHnVI/AAAAAAAASaI/GBsFG0RLe3woqu5TIJicYdxHmM9H2Do8wCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1096" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QJMwBu0H5t8/W7o2gHCHnVI/AAAAAAAASaI/GBsFG0RLe3woqu5TIJicYdxHmM9H2Do8wCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP10.jpg" width="292" /></a></div>
<br />
This made for just enough cinema and a believable reaction for a Fireslayer to have in protest to being eaten like a hairly, gold-flecked, little sausage!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qO22RntNG10/W7o2hLb_uwI/AAAAAAAASaM/zKR7Exl0YVsuN71QhAEW6khkxwSKEvEpgCLcBGAs/s1600/ShagmadrothWIP11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qO22RntNG10/W7o2hLb_uwI/AAAAAAAASaM/zKR7Exl0YVsuN71QhAEW6khkxwSKEvEpgCLcBGAs/s320/ShagmadrothWIP11.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
With that, I finished the fin and the rest is history.<br />
<br />
I will share photos of the model once the client paints it. I am personally thrilled to see it. I will offer some criticism of the Magmadroth kit - it is a beautiful dragon, but the pose is a little static and while that is fixable, that's also going to add to the hours spent converting a model like this, which can rack up the price for labor and we weren't going in that direction.<br />
<br />
I think it will tie in nicely with his fluff and theme and I think it fits in with the Dragon Ogre kit.<br />
<br />
As always let me know what you think and oh, Helloween is a little tradition around DFG where I make monsters and creepy stuff in the month of October for the blog, so be on the look out for some crazy shit this month!<br />

<br />
TJ here with a quick post to show off some Space Wolf Primaris Hellblaster conversions I did on commission for a friend. It was fun and quick and I think it did the trick!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H__rSxVORyI/W7oyYkOkbiI/AAAAAAAASYQ/Qs0Yf9n_3K4xowLwYQ9P45R8eVuShkTZQCLcBGAs/s1600/Hellblastergroup2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H__rSxVORyI/W7oyYkOkbiI/AAAAAAAASYQ/Qs0Yf9n_3K4xowLwYQ9P45R8eVuShkTZQCLcBGAs/s320/Hellblastergroup2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So the resin heads you see come from Spellcrow Miniatures. Those and the Space Wolf upgrade kit for the Primaris Marines were not enough for either myself or my client to think these looked Wolfy enough, so we set out to change that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i4eIuz46Lm8/W7oyW9DohII/AAAAAAAASYM/22tcGP0t1nwMuFOr7XbWRhO-DhiulakLwCLcBGAs/s1600/Hellblastergroup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i4eIuz46Lm8/W7oyW9DohII/AAAAAAAASYM/22tcGP0t1nwMuFOr7XbWRhO-DhiulakLwCLcBGAs/s320/Hellblastergroup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I added pelts to most of the models, then went to one of the millions of grey hunter sprues that hang about locations where Space Wolf players frequent and started to trim bits with a sharp hobby knife.<br />

Before you knew it, I had little wolf heads for weapons, tiny runes, wolf tails and skulls (when is there ever a shortage of skulls in this happy universe?)<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I also tucked some combat blades into some pelts because you KNOW that these SW primaris had to hide their shanks when they were still hanging with Bobby G.<br />

<br />
These conversions were easy and I encourage you to wolf up your primaris Marines please. Please SW players! Don't go out there with bland looking wolves!<br />

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fRKlVD1NLIc/W4iLSdLVXxI/AAAAAAAASWQ/g_K2p7eFgVoi_9A9ZUqFHNCPr_3pXMRxwCLcBGAs/s1600/Mutalith%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="983" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fRKlVD1NLIc/W4iLSdLVXxI/AAAAAAAASWQ/g_K2p7eFgVoi_9A9ZUqFHNCPr_3pXMRxwCLcBGAs/s320/Mutalith%2B1.jpg" width="262" /></a></div>
<br />
When I was building my Tzaangor, the Mutalith kit was out of stock at GW, so I made my own out of an old Ghorgon kit from AOS that I had laying in the bits box. Basically, I wanted him to be a big Tzaangor! Let's take a look at him!<br />
<a name='more'></a>The conversion is actually pretty simple and requires only a few bits, some basic green stuff work, a drill and some sculpting tools.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b4yErNDizQM/W4iLVH7TSoI/AAAAAAAASWY/bWWW7Cvl-vAtKaSjZ_55Ij0egyu6YOU7wCLcBGAs/s1600/Mutalith%2B3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="861" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b4yErNDizQM/W4iLVH7TSoI/AAAAAAAASWY/bWWW7Cvl-vAtKaSjZ_55Ij0egyu6YOU7wCLcBGAs/s320/Mutalith%2B3.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
So if you take a close look at the model, there are a ton of eyes and tentacles on the shoulders and back. They are all from the Chaos Spawn kit. A 1/8 Drill bit will make holes that these bits will fit perfectly into with no green stuff. Next, you want to add a beak. Just add a little green stuff and shape it out off of the original mouth and smooth it out. It will work out fine. I did flames in the hands because those are the hands I had and the best idea I had at the time. You could make it with horrors in its hands, a giant weapon. It's all good.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XKzFX6n66_Y/W4iLWW2aGcI/AAAAAAAASWc/wsIKaKk79EwoS8uiP5bWX1HFgobfwJCcgCLcBGAs/s1600/Mutalith%2B4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XKzFX6n66_Y/W4iLWW2aGcI/AAAAAAAASWc/wsIKaKk79EwoS8uiP5bWX1HFgobfwJCcgCLcBGAs/s320/Mutalith%2B4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I also added the Chaos symbol from the Chaos Warshrine and made the portal with green stuff and a transdimensional beamer bit from the Necron Night Scythe bit, but you could sculpt your own.<br />
<br />
Overall, I like the final look of the model and it could also be paired with my beastmen as a Cygor to run with my Tzaangor!<br />
<br />
Let me know what you think or show me some pics if you have a crazy Mutalith or a cool converted Cygor or Ghorgon.<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ww4zkxs9vpQ/W4iIzVm9egI/AAAAAAAASV0/N8-WFimJw5MWsV7mV5Icxo66IIPfsaKOwCLcBGAs/s1600/Magnus1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1073" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ww4zkxs9vpQ/W4iIzVm9egI/AAAAAAAASV0/N8-WFimJw5MWsV7mV5Icxo66IIPfsaKOwCLcBGAs/s400/Magnus1.jpg" width="357" /></a></div>
<br />
I have Magnus here painted and converted. Yes, the background is a little busy, but I am happy with the model overall.<br />
<a name='more'></a>I had a terrible time with an airbrush overspatter, causing me to strip the model. No matter hwta though, I am proud of the work I did here. The conversions are subtle and most have been done before. The huge fireball is pretty cliche at this point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MKIMNUI5qo0/W4iI0f2QlyI/AAAAAAAASV4/X0IWUYH9kFMQHEX6Rvk0wPh-wItI6iEHQCLcBGAs/s1600/Magnus%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1168" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MKIMNUI5qo0/W4iI0f2QlyI/AAAAAAAASV4/X0IWUYH9kFMQHEX6Rvk0wPh-wItI6iEHQCLcBGAs/s400/Magnus%2B2.jpg" width="388" /></a></div>
<br />
The next big conversion is the lack of nipple horns. They were replaced with the crown pieces of the alternate head bits that come with the model. The weapon has been changed too. I combined the spear and sword into a sort of Klingon looking weapon hahahaha.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_s6vQbLbUw/W4iI1q1ydmI/AAAAAAAASV8/dd0bX2bbn5kXYeF8I0jp3BVZtxGwyOBeQCLcBGAs/s1600/Magnus3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="929" data-original-width="1200" height="308" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_s6vQbLbUw/W4iI1q1ydmI/AAAAAAAASV8/dd0bX2bbn5kXYeF8I0jp3BVZtxGwyOBeQCLcBGAs/s400/Magnus3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I will take some more photos in a better environment (I may have to build one, but I would love to hear what you think of the model here).TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-88713805479507713772018-09-14T09:00:00.000-04:002018-09-14T09:00:07.583-04:00Simple Tzaangor Conversions from Acolytes of Tzeentch<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5p-ryYg-9dI/W4iCfy3D6HI/AAAAAAAASVU/Hu3LBeqxr_kcxsE1gzT5kAnaT1ecldB5ACEwYBhgL/s1600/DISTZAANGORS3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5p-ryYg-9dI/W4iCfy3D6HI/AAAAAAAASVU/Hu3LBeqxr_kcxsE1gzT5kAnaT1ecldB5ACEwYBhgL/s320/DISTZAANGORS3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
One of the best bangs for your buck when getting into either Thousand Sons or Disciples of Tzeentch is to pick up the Changecult box. In either game, Acolytes are pretty worthless, so let's make them into Tzaangor with a super easy conversion.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tlauQGmF_s0/W4iFMRLLHRI/AAAAAAAASVo/7hNCtagfRTQPEiFICnFAKaHYmF3QH9xVwCLcBGAs/s1600/DISTZAANGORS5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tlauQGmF_s0/W4iFMRLLHRI/AAAAAAAASVo/7hNCtagfRTQPEiFICnFAKaHYmF3QH9xVwCLcBGAs/s320/DISTZAANGORS5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The Tzaangor sprues come with a TON of extra heads. This makes for easy Tzaangor conversions. I like the idea that some Tzaangor are mostly human still, so all I do is just add the head. It will take you a tiny piece of pinning material (I use a little piece of paper clip) and a tiny ball of green stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HLdE-_FlRbY/W4iCePHn1qI/AAAAAAAASVQ/LEUTvQ9UNx0HyNHIM4mNwLdZ73-0BXTigCLcBGAs/s1600/DISTZAANGORS2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HLdE-_FlRbY/W4iCePHn1qI/AAAAAAAASVQ/LEUTvQ9UNx0HyNHIM4mNwLdZ73-0BXTigCLcBGAs/s320/DISTZAANGORS2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
So to add this head, I just drilled a hole in the head and in the neck, then ran that pin through a tiny ball of green stuff and plugged the two models together. If you'd like more pictures, I can add a better tutorial, just let me know.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EHNdlErUgzY/W4iCkuoAJ6I/AAAAAAAASVY/t98adkPzB5ojm7bMrz6s3AWNTQPUwCOIQCLcBGAs/s1600/DISTZAANGORS4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="520" data-original-width="1199" height="138" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EHNdlErUgzY/W4iCkuoAJ6I/AAAAAAAASVY/t98adkPzB5ojm7bMrz6s3AWNTQPUwCOIQCLcBGAs/s320/DISTZAANGORS4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some regular Tzaangor mixed in with Acolyte Tzaangor. They work pretty well together. I'd say the only thing I would watch is how you arm your Tzaangor. The Acolytes will have a lot of shield arms, so I would plan for them to be the shield bearers in your army if you are building for AOS.<br />
<br />
Let me know what you think.TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-72453944034884142132018-09-12T09:00:00.000-04:002018-09-12T09:00:16.240-04:00Foetid Bloat Drone Maggoth Conversion II (Even Nurglier than the first)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3KOhWhcRqfI/W4h_5kLQRFI/AAAAAAAASU0/yXgEPdmHg188-C1_f-xQVhR7KRMQkIkCQCLcBGAs/s1600/PDrone1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="875" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3KOhWhcRqfI/W4h_5kLQRFI/AAAAAAAASU0/yXgEPdmHg188-C1_f-xQVhR7KRMQkIkCQCLcBGAs/s320/PDrone1.jpg" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
It always comes back to Nurgle, right? My love of Nurgle models goes waaaaaaay back to the earliest days of the hobby for me with Epic Mortarion, original Plaguebearers and the Realm of Chaos. In the theme of unchained, silly monsters, I offer my second Foetid Bloat Drone conversion.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
This is a pretty simple conversion with the same idea as my last Maggoth Drone. This time, I wanted to make a lot of silly tongue and later include some Nurgle's Rot in the drool!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3sR-TQpq5NU/W4h_63sgIDI/AAAAAAAASU4/HTPAYqdydAIMRrfKeHAQ3vxeDOYHO2kmQCLcBGAs/s1600/Pdrone2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1005" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3sR-TQpq5NU/W4h_63sgIDI/AAAAAAAASU4/HTPAYqdydAIMRrfKeHAQ3vxeDOYHO2kmQCLcBGAs/s320/Pdrone2.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
<br />
I am excited to get this painted up and in my Death Guard Army.<br />
<br />
Also, here is a quick look at Morty:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kB8hv6OlDWI/W4h_1sEDCQI/AAAAAAAASVA/h96sDXPRExoca1CaZMoU4pHXrFIte5TXgCEwYBhgL/s1600/Morty1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1034" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kB8hv6OlDWI/W4h_1sEDCQI/AAAAAAAASVA/h96sDXPRExoca1CaZMoU4pHXrFIte5TXgCEwYBhgL/s320/Morty1.jpg" width="275" /></a></div>
<br />
So yeah, I am going to try Heresy Era colors potentially. Let me know if you have ideas or suggestions please!<br />

<br />
More Blood. More Skulls. Can't Stop. Won't Stop! On my quest to have one of every Bloodthirster for my Khorne armies in 40k and AOS, I have finished a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage. Let's take a look.<br />
<a name='more'></a>So this model is in the purple-glazed black theme I used on Skarbarand. I really loved that look and am going deep on it here. First I paint the model black (two thin coats). Then I drybrush a dark grey, followed by a medium grey and then a light grey. I build the color and highlight less of the surface, sticking to the very highest paints and ridges on the model with the lightest grey. Then I wash the whole model with a thin layer of 50/50 Druchi Violet and Matte Medium.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-icBnScmmec8/W4h9eJlVirI/AAAAAAAASUU/fyh2d0VrDjI6JTOAdQ4Z0nMyxx6sSd2MwCLcBGAs/s1600/Thirster2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-icBnScmmec8/W4h9eJlVirI/AAAAAAAASUU/fyh2d0VrDjI6JTOAdQ4Z0nMyxx6sSd2MwCLcBGAs/s400/Thirster2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I kept it super simple and drybrushed flesh tones over khorne red on the wings.<br />

It's a pretty simple paint scheme overall, but it looks effective to me.<br />

What do you guys think of the colors and how the model came out overall?<br />

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQ7hIz8akco/W4h2qDlm0QI/AAAAAAAASUE/VwKH1uR12Mc9n1Nmp2WPWi5jdEXrKOS1QCLcBGAs/s1600/Imperial-Soup-Warhol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="745" data-original-width="1199" height="198" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQ7hIz8akco/W4h2qDlm0QI/AAAAAAAASUE/VwKH1uR12Mc9n1Nmp2WPWi5jdEXrKOS1QCLcBGAs/s320/Imperial-Soup-Warhol.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If you play competitive 40k, you are familiar with the Astra Militarum CP farm, but for the uninitiated, let me explain.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
It is a cheap battalion that gives you 5 CP. You will need to take an<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Astra Militarum warlord with Grand Strategist, and choose Kurov's Aquila as your free relic.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Then you spend 1CP on Armoury of Baal to equip the Veritas Vitae. Now you roll 1D6 per strategem used and on a 5+ "gain" a (1) CP, and you also roll a D6 per CP spent on a stratagem and on a 5+ that CP is "refunded." </span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">So you get to roll n+1 D6 on an n-cost stratagem and on 5s you get a CP back, and because the Veritas Vitae is worded as "gain" not "refunded" you can actually profit by one if all your dice come up 5+.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">And from Kurov's Aquila you can gain CP off of your opponent's use of stratagems too.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The complaints inside the community are based on the fact that this cheap battalion (less than 200 points) is used to produce CP for tougher units from other Imperial Factions like Knights ... well, let's face it: Before Knights, nobody really was complaining. Sure BA and AC armies were using the CP battery or farm, but Knights really illustrated the power of near infinite CP being generated by a low point battalion to pump up superheavies that were designed to operate with limited CP.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red; font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">So what are people looking for?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">People want it to be limited but have suggested different solutions based on where they stand.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Some people are saying Guardsmen should be 5 points per model and Commanders 50 points, which I think doesn't stope the CP battery (I think people will take it until it hits around 300+ points). The point raise actually only hurts pure Astra Militarum armies, which are actually pretty cool.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">This seems heavy handed to me, but I would be interested in how people got to this idea and where it is justified against other solutions.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red; font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">What about limiting the CP to only 1 and the artifacts don't stack?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">This seems more doable, but I think it limits the army to having only one useful artifact out of the two. I'm not sure how I feel here. I like the idea of both working, but I agree with others that there needs to be some limitation.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">What about limiting the CP to the original max amount of CP the army started with?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">This would stop unlimited CP from being generated and could allow the opponent to have a powerful 1st turn (if they go first) without making the Imperial player a ton of extra CP. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">That sounds good, but it also keeps the knights powered up every time you spend CP. It would slow it down though. Once again, I am not sure how I feel here.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red; font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">What about limiting the Grand Strategist or VV (or both) to only gaining CP when THEIR OWN faction uses a strategem?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I think this goes in line with how non-imperial CP regeneration or generation tricks work (like Death Guard). It would mean that if the cheap guard battalion doesn't use the CP, then they don't gain CP for using the Blood Angel or Knight strategem ... I think this may be more fair. It would allow CP to be generated, but it may not allow it to go off so hard and make the Knights feel "infinite."</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">This is probably along the lines of a solution I would hope for because it allows the Guard to still benefit from playing pure Guard (or AM) and limits the stuff that Imperials are doing that other grand factions just cannot do.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Wow, I am way over the word limit I expected to hit. Anyway, if you have some thoughts, let's discuss them here. Maybe one of us will predict what the future will likely hold. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
Here we go with more Khorne. I bought this Daemon Prince from my friend A-Aron who had started to paint this model before quitting Khorne. I picked him up and after years of admiring this model, finally put some paint down.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
This model has a great amount of detail and harks back to a time that Forge World had where their Daemon models looked great and not silly (sorry, I think their Daemon models have fallen off in the last 5-6 years basically starting with Samus and the new Khorne stuff).<br />
<br />
But this model has everything that made the Siege of Vraks such a good release.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a9bG5pfAeW4/W4hyElVEVMI/AAAAAAAASTs/ibrAd4Re6dwg95teH_THpXOu-8LunGWkgCLcBGAs/s1600/Uraka2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1030" data-original-width="1200" height="274" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a9bG5pfAeW4/W4hyElVEVMI/AAAAAAAASTs/ibrAd4Re6dwg95teH_THpXOu-8LunGWkgCLcBGAs/s320/Uraka2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Most of my Khorne Daemons have black skin with purple glaze over grey highlights, but A-Aron started this guy out red and I wanted to have some of his work on the model, so this guy will be unique in my army ... unless maybe I do my most recent Daemon Prince Conversion in red ... feedback would be influential here, so let me know.<br />
<br />

<br />
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! CONVERSIONS FOR THE ... SPRUE GOD! I just want to share a quick preview of a Khorne Daemon Prince I converted up and will have painted soon.<br />
<a name='more'></a>This conversion is based on the Ogroid Thurmaturge model from the Disciples of Tzeentch AOS army. The wings come from the Varghiest/ Crypt Horror kit, which is so fantastic for conversions. The axe and belt buckle are from the Bloothirster, his ponytail and Khorne tabbard (not visible) are from the Bloodsecrator AOS kit and the shoulder pads are from the Helbrute.<br />
<br />
The basing is the Ophidian Gate terrain and some Miliput.<br />
<br />
I have had my eye on converting a DP with the Skullreaver Axe for my 40k army (chop up some knights) and love the idea of this creepy guy to also be in my AOS Blades of Khorne army.<br />
<br />
Let me know what you think guys and stand by because more Khorne is coming from my hobby bench over the next few days.TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-80699435881117768532018-08-31T16:00:00.000-04:002018-08-31T16:00:10.684-04:00AT Nova Sept 1<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hey guys, I am back from a long break here to begin posting on the blog again. I've been using social media much more in the last two years, but I do miss the long format provided by blog posts. That said, It is time to dig in on what I have been working on.<br />
<a name='more'></a>As I got back into the hobby, I decided to commit to the Chaos legions in all forms: Daemons, Marines, Renegade Titans and everything evil.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ev3iYIyHiAo/W4hoP7I4NBI/AAAAAAAASSo/iR8ekAP6HVQ-htGxgFMZsL0_CDbwLoNsACLcBGAs/s1600/ALSorc2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ev3iYIyHiAo/W4hoP7I4NBI/AAAAAAAASSo/iR8ekAP6HVQ-htGxgFMZsL0_CDbwLoNsACLcBGAs/s320/ALSorc2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted my Sorc to be unique and detailed so I went with plenty of Alpha Legion freehand and I wanted the model based on something cooler than the Finecast options or parts from the Warp Talons box. This model is based on Heresy Era Arhiman.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnZIVEJKnkg/W4hoRM2tZyI/AAAAAAAASSs/3Wzs9WJTgwQT5eNOH_kdPD4hfww5MnEogCLcBGAs/s1600/AlSorc3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnZIVEJKnkg/W4hoRM2tZyI/AAAAAAAASSs/3Wzs9WJTgwQT5eNOH_kdPD4hfww5MnEogCLcBGAs/s320/AlSorc3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I do plan to come back and fade these symbols back in with a Temple Guard Glaze to make these look like part of the armor, which is something I only learned painting the next squad: My Alpha Legion Noise Marines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9bu5UKtxogI/W4hoSjJuYhI/AAAAAAAASSw/ZhVpJ8-RXvkVJarSxuZYMcaV0T2yFVT-ACLcBGAs/s1600/noise1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="613" data-original-width="1200" height="163" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9bu5UKtxogI/W4hoSjJuYhI/AAAAAAAASSw/ZhVpJ8-RXvkVJarSxuZYMcaV0T2yFVT-ACLcBGAs/s320/noise1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These guys were quite fun as they added some colors and patterns that break with the basic patterns my AL cultists have taken.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HxyLT8Q5qpQ/W4hoTuSX9kI/AAAAAAAASS0/m_5va3IeDioJJOB35mznYRWRHusgf2JTACLcBGAs/s1600/Noise2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="769" data-original-width="1200" height="205" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HxyLT8Q5qpQ/W4hoTuSX9kI/AAAAAAAASS0/m_5va3IeDioJJOB35mznYRWRHusgf2JTACLcBGAs/s320/Noise2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The snakes are fun and seem like a nice way to pay homage to Slaanesh while also honoring the chapter heritage of these guys.<br />
<br />
I love Noise Marines in this edition. Huge squads with Endless Cacophony, Veterans of the Long War, Auras and Delightful Agonies have been massively successful for me and have been game breaking at times!<br />
<br />
That's it folks. I am getting ready to visit Nova on the 1st and hopefully, I see some of you there! Please let me know what you think and give me some feedback.TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-61876456773527268582017-11-16T10:00:00.000-05:002017-11-16T10:00:11.967-05:00Hobby Tricks: Prepping symbols, Sticks and BLOOD!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BKRIezwysm8/WfYQHrbQFXI/AAAAAAAASNM/JxtWSfBSKLMonVFg-E8AMUpOwgg0w33xwCLcBGAs/s1600/prep1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1064" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BKRIezwysm8/WfYQHrbQFXI/AAAAAAAASNM/JxtWSfBSKLMonVFg-E8AMUpOwgg0w33xwCLcBGAs/s320/prep1.jpg" width="283" /></a></div>
<br />
TJ here to share a couple of basic things I have used/ noticed that have helped me save time or just plain kicked ass. Let's take a look.<br />
<br />
So the Alpha legion symbols you have seen on my Berzerkers and Oblits are all pretty well shaded and highlighted. I didn't paint each one of those painstakingly over the course of hours. NOOOO! I painted them all at once with a regular brush and some help from plain old Blue Tac.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d7C9xDuSI5Q/WfYQ5am9hzI/AAAAAAAASNc/Gvoga3W7OEgjCBKl3W9IlXENFP5_utLWQCLcBGAs/s1600/prep2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="755" data-original-width="1200" height="201" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d7C9xDuSI5Q/WfYQ5am9hzI/AAAAAAAASNc/Gvoga3W7OEgjCBKl3W9IlXENFP5_utLWQCLcBGAs/s320/prep2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I stuck these ALpha Legion Symbols onto the blue tac and then primed them right on the blue tac. DOn't worry, you can still use the blue tac afterward and it is $2 if you can't (but you can). Then you come through with a big brush and paint base them all and then come back and dry brush the highlights. No cleaning up the surrounding shoulder pad, no being careful. Just get 100 or more done at a time. It saved me hours on the Alpha Legion and is still saving me time. I just glue the symbols on later.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ahKjRan-Sg/WfYSLOKOUKI/AAAAAAAASNo/292py0QSY1AdAf8veeeI5vpnSV_trZsXgCLcBGAs/s1600/prep3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1102" data-original-width="1200" height="293" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ahKjRan-Sg/WfYSLOKOUKI/AAAAAAAASNo/292py0QSY1AdAf8veeeI5vpnSV_trZsXgCLcBGAs/s320/prep3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another thing I did was use the blue tac ($2) and stuck it to some yard sticks that I had cut in half (less than $1 each). This let me airbrush and highlight the models super fast. I know this trick isn't new and isn't unknown, but I know I thought i was fine without the sticks and man was I wrong. I based and highlighted 115 models with three colors of blue in an hour and five minutes. 115 models! I can't believe I knew this trick existed and never tried it. It costs three dollars to set up. DO IT!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u2O3zqQw9dw/WfYS8U1kqMI/AAAAAAAASNw/p4zki4XbNbQVb1hBLLzMr8L3HFdr2l0QQCLcBGAs/s1600/blood1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u2O3zqQw9dw/WfYS8U1kqMI/AAAAAAAASNw/p4zki4XbNbQVb1hBLLzMr8L3HFdr2l0QQCLcBGAs/s320/blood1.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The last little trick I have that I have been using lately is just mixing 50/50 Blood For the Blood God technical paint with Secret Weapon's Realistic Water effect medium. Take a look at it dried on that base. That's completely set. It looks wet and passed right over the skulls to pool looking pretty much like fresh blood to me. You could go heavier on the BFTBG to make it thicker too. I was just stoked by the final result and wanted to share it. BTW, I have used a bunch of different still water and I was really impressed by SW's formula. It just works better and easier and is very affordable compared to the alternatives.<br />
<br />
Anyway, those are just some tricks I have tried and found recently. I think I might do something like this once in a while. Have you tried any of these? Let me know how it worked.TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-29970922464572868222017-11-09T10:00:00.000-05:002017-11-09T10:00:01.486-05:00Alpha Legion Khorne Berzerker Conversions from Primaris Reivers and FW bits<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PgS7JDxkOEc/WfYHzb1w0qI/AAAAAAAASMM/OMy7Nv0-YP88b0B7zY4FGLHK5ByZsWQ3wCLcBGAs/s1600/berzerkers2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="578" data-original-width="1200" height="154" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PgS7JDxkOEc/WfYHzb1w0qI/AAAAAAAASMM/OMy7Nv0-YP88b0B7zY4FGLHK5ByZsWQ3wCLcBGAs/s320/berzerkers2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've made some Khorne Berzerkers for my Alpha Legion. I really liked what I did with my Agressor Conversions so I decided to use Primaris Marine Reivers as a base for my berzerkers. I wanted to add some seriously Khornate stuff, but leave them a little toned down and give them the "behind enemy lines feel," so I left chainswords off the menu and went with only blades (another reason to use the Reivers). I also used the Forge World berzerkers helmets and shaved off the huge crests (bunny ears to the initiated, lol). Let's take a look though ...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />

<br />
Here are a few I started to paint just to give you the idea of what they can look like in the Alpha Legion colors. I like the idea of Alpha Legion infiltrating the labs, grabbing some gene seeds and later discovering they were World Eaters, then retrofitting the nails (but not as well as the World Eaters) and setting them loose on the battlefield behind enemy lines. "Blades are quiet. Blades are true!"<br />

<br />
TJ here with some Alpha Legion Cultists. I assembled these guys three days before a GT, so I didn't get to convert them, so I am using paint to make them just different enough. Fortunatley, AL gives you a selection of color to use to make models a little more unique.<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-krMhI0CFT6M/WfYB7vLvx_I/AAAAAAAASKs/jFpTn8xg0GAfWDuspuaGG8k_8SfCTTVhACLcBGAs/s1600/oblit1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="695" data-original-width="1200" height="185" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-krMhI0CFT6M/WfYB7vLvx_I/AAAAAAAASKs/jFpTn8xg0GAfWDuspuaGG8k_8SfCTTVhACLcBGAs/s320/oblit1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
TJ here with some Alpha Legion Primari ... um I mean Obliterators! In all seriousness, I love the idea of ALpha Legion getting their hands on Primaris Gene Seed and corrupting it! These Aggressor models make great oblits with some slight modifications. Let's see what I did ...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BEiLp5Q_Ccg/WfYB_SdLpnI/AAAAAAAASKw/lh4t85WK9QUAPQxP2yRcrroitlifD467ACLcBGAs/s1600/oblit5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1065" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BEiLp5Q_Ccg/WfYB_SdLpnI/AAAAAAAASKw/lh4t85WK9QUAPQxP2yRcrroitlifD467ACLcBGAs/s320/oblit5.jpg" width="284" /></a></div>
<br />
Basically, I did some scraping to get rid of all the imperial stuff. Then I added the gargoyle heads on the guns because I think of them as having a dragon or hydra theme. Then I added the lightning claws from the Calth Terminators set. I think overall it makes them similar yet different enough from Aggressors to suit my needs as oblits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LPM91HOpFSU/WfYCDJwaCII/AAAAAAAASK0/_WHIL7OUwYIVx0d8ftYMlGgD-s_vnw5DwCLcBGAs/s1600/oblit2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="568" data-original-width="1199" height="151" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LPM91HOpFSU/WfYCDJwaCII/AAAAAAAASK0/_WHIL7OUwYIVx0d8ftYMlGgD-s_vnw5DwCLcBGAs/s320/oblit2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As for the paint, I airbrushed them Kantor Blue and Highlighted them with Temple Guard, then washed everything in Nightshade. I then added the hydra symbols and then did the hazard stripes and snake scales freehand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QOsUFmISQgg/WfYCHqWiVHI/AAAAAAAASK4/cuNaSfEyDPwDHqOEIKKIDfcHzZAugQhJACLcBGAs/s1600/oblit3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="540" data-original-width="1199" height="144" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QOsUFmISQgg/WfYCHqWiVHI/AAAAAAAASK4/cuNaSfEyDPwDHqOEIKKIDfcHzZAugQhJACLcBGAs/s320/oblit3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The desert themed bases really seem to help showcase the dark models.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J2ima5spVo0/WfYCMo1ostI/AAAAAAAASLA/MW1xJIf1yhg7xeV2vpkB9d0ptVnSh1ADQCLcBGAs/s1600/oblit4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="505" data-original-width="1200" height="134" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J2ima5spVo0/WfYCMo1ostI/AAAAAAAASLA/MW1xJIf1yhg7xeV2vpkB9d0ptVnSh1ADQCLcBGAs/s320/oblit4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I absolutely loved painting and assembling these Alpha Legion Oblits and look forward to making much more Alpha Legion traitors from loyalist parts! Let me know what you think!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
TJ here to wrap up Helloween 2017 with Skarbarand, the angriest Bloodthirster of them all! I tried out a new skin technique with this model, who was a fun challenge to paint with so many different textures and shapes! Let's take a look.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yp8hYrB77mA/WfX7xgTCzjI/AAAAAAAASJs/dHsOuulWdrYjJLHOOX6bLLXAE4NxkgRQwCLcBGAs/s1600/skarbarand2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="932" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yp8hYrB77mA/WfX7xgTCzjI/AAAAAAAASJs/dHsOuulWdrYjJLHOOX6bLLXAE4NxkgRQwCLcBGAs/s320/skarbarand2.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
The skin was my real challenge. I wanted to have the dark daemon skin I had seen in some resource material, but after painting him black and drybrushing up three shades of grey, I thought he looked a little odd, so i made a mix of 1 part Nuln Oil, 1 part Purple shade (can't remember the GW name) and 1 part airbrush thinner. I then glazed the skin with it, being careful not to let it pool. It gave him the tone I was looking for and set the tone for the rest of the work I would do on the model.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8zu1e4K6yU/WfX764tw2wI/AAAAAAAASJw/2InGShOOnmE3GkdoMhq3W4UdGZb0lOEogCLcBGAs/s1600/skarbarand3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="865" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8zu1e4K6yU/WfX764tw2wI/AAAAAAAASJw/2InGShOOnmE3GkdoMhq3W4UdGZb0lOEogCLcBGAs/s320/skarbarand3.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Beyond that I just had fun painting his wings as broken bones, his armor as the deep red's of a former champion of Khorne, his brass ... um brassy! The wings skin is actually done with <a href="http://darkfuturegaming.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/corrupted-flesh-tutorial.html">my old corrupted skin tutorial.</a><br />
<br />
The base is a mix of GW basing material, milliput and sand.<br />
<br />
I had a ton of fun painting this model and look forward to adding to my Khorne warbands in both 40k and AoS. Let me know what you think!<br />

<br />
TJ here to rock some simple starter kit conversions for my Death Guard. Now DG are not a priority army for me right now. I have my Alpha Legion and World Eaters taking most of my attention at the moment. This means that any DG I make are going to come from kits I already own or from the seven, YES seven! Dark Imperium Nurgle sets I have been gifted or discount sold by my friends.<br />
<br />
First off is Typhus. Yes, I know, he is another conversion based on the Lord of Contagion, but it's what I have to work with. Hopefully, I have made him unique enought with the addition of some Destroyer Hive flies thanks to the Maggoth kit and a scyth also from the same kit.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RmMl6_WGx9A/WfX-YXGTXsI/AAAAAAAASKI/396t-bGeZzgx8Wz563ntvZv9St37pLltgCLcBGAs/s1600/typhus2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RmMl6_WGx9A/WfX-YXGTXsI/AAAAAAAASKI/396t-bGeZzgx8Wz563ntvZv9St37pLltgCLcBGAs/s320/typhus2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I have him some height with the cork and added some plastic half pearls to his base so I can come in later with the foetid swamp theme I have given the other Death Guard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ykZgcbQi4Lg/WfX-aEFyQdI/AAAAAAAASKM/6UEFePd6jaIq8lfz_QK4g-77CoXEb7yYACLcBGAs/s1600/typhus3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="971" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ykZgcbQi4Lg/WfX-aEFyQdI/AAAAAAAASKM/6UEFePd6jaIq8lfz_QK4g-77CoXEb7yYACLcBGAs/s320/typhus3.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<br />
With Typhus out of the way, I move on to another simple conversion: My DG Dread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4HWc66ucOfQ/WfX-rfOtOJI/AAAAAAAASKQ/DkBvaejrMNokbDGBSCnerwiLg34k_6J1QCLcBGAs/s1600/dread1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1200" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4HWc66ucOfQ/WfX-rfOtOJI/AAAAAAAASKQ/DkBvaejrMNokbDGBSCnerwiLg34k_6J1QCLcBGAs/s320/dread1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The dread was taken straight from the Dark Vengeance kit I have had for years and given a Plasticard lascannon and a missile launcher. I want to take advantage of the strategem that let's it fire twice if I use it with the regular Chaos dex and I want to give it some anti tank ability since that is what DG lacks at range.<br />
<br />
Anyway, let me know what you think about these conversions!TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-30319068774010203852017-10-29T11:58:00.001-04:002017-10-29T17:03:14.737-04:00Maggoth Foetid Bloat Drone Conversion! <br />
The first thing I did was check to see if the conversion was feasable. The head was almost too big, but it works. I want it to look like a giant daemon larva was strapped into this engine to go wreck everything it could fly close enough to ... which is what the model does on the table.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cOieqtRZwVM/WfX363YQA3I/AAAAAAAASI0/62TsiAg_gDMdIIrXpecq3fm29gxL0gthQCLcBGAs/s1600/drone4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cOieqtRZwVM/WfX363YQA3I/AAAAAAAASI0/62TsiAg_gDMdIIrXpecq3fm29gxL0gthQCLcBGAs/s320/drone4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xtk2DDLL2KY/WfX382H0ifI/AAAAAAAASI4/xyTVfTKgD1YayfkDehnDuLsuUFkiJ6OugCLcBGAs/s1600/drone3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Xtk2DDLL2KY/WfX382H0ifI/AAAAAAAASI4/xyTVfTKgD1YayfkDehnDuLsuUFkiJ6OugCLcBGAs/s1600/drone3.jpg" /></a></div>
Next came the skin. I wanted the skin to have some texture, so I used the tools to shape the green stuff and a thin sheet of card turned on its edge to add the lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0mat5QBe6tA/WfX3-mZUPvI/AAAAAAAASI8/FNH6EAPl9PAomXc9W_m01De8SX5DrclRQCLcBGAs/s1600/drone2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0mat5QBe6tA/WfX3-mZUPvI/AAAAAAAASI8/FNH6EAPl9PAomXc9W_m01De8SX5DrclRQCLcBGAs/s320/drone2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The end result is this bad boy right here.<br />

In case you have never seen it, <a href="http://darkfuturegaming.blogspot.com/2013/01/nurgle-hell-worm-painted-for-tables.html">check out my custom Heldrake I call my Hellworm</a>, which I sculpted in 2012. Maybe that's what these little drones grow up to be some day!<br />

Tribal Space Sharks!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAKXB3K4kag/WXzfd1UlhkI/AAAAAAAAR2U/N_qDB6Dbaxs0roFWXzy_LCkoRgKMjLtUwCLcBGAs/s1600/Shark1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="908" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAKXB3K4kag/WXzfd1UlhkI/AAAAAAAAR2U/N_qDB6Dbaxs0roFWXzy_LCkoRgKMjLtUwCLcBGAs/s320/Shark1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Today I want to share something that blew my mind the first time I saw it; a Carchadon army by French artist, Malcharion. He has dubbed the original forum post "Carsharknado!" Let's take a look at the incredible, tribal force he has created!<a name='more'></a><br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jkB7ZF0A5-Y/WXzfhS0qPFI/AAAAAAAAR2Y/YJ5GjMNXkRw88MWmI438f0TjcI_KmRgiwCLcBGAs/s1600/shark2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jkB7ZF0A5-Y/WXzfhS0qPFI/AAAAAAAAR2Y/YJ5GjMNXkRw88MWmI438f0TjcI_KmRgiwCLcBGAs/s320/shark2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Let's start off with this beautiful Automata and Tech Termie! Every inch of these models is covered in a canvas of incredible freehand markings and weathering. I also like the smooth conversions. <br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3jKXUy5fOg/WXzfixNzGFI/AAAAAAAAR2c/IIEbRr-Ei4YXlBGjTNfvEI4PsBs3nEP_gCLcBGAs/s1600/shark3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3jKXUy5fOg/WXzfixNzGFI/AAAAAAAAR2c/IIEbRr-Ei4YXlBGjTNfvEI4PsBs3nEP_gCLcBGAs/s320/shark3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is a closer look at the shield.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZaOK-ZCLWM/WXzfkrlfQZI/AAAAAAAAR2g/fJMKAuR0u5sysxLSqZNqcYFN0U6-TgR9ACLcBGAs/s1600/shark4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ZaOK-ZCLWM/WXzfkrlfQZI/AAAAAAAAR2g/fJMKAuR0u5sysxLSqZNqcYFN0U6-TgR9ACLcBGAs/s320/shark4.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Another great platform for subtle conversions and freehand.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-euhJOfKig_o/WXzfreQVVMI/AAAAAAAAR2o/McfGTYgLYkcwuGwKDk0VBPVQzamR4FYegCLcBGAs/s1600/shark5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-euhJOfKig_o/WXzfreQVVMI/AAAAAAAAR2o/McfGTYgLYkcwuGwKDk0VBPVQzamR4FYegCLcBGAs/s320/shark5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This librarian here has so many subtle conversions and parts sourced from different kits, that I have lost track of them and can't tell what's a conversion swap and what's sculpted. I love the spear and the split paint scheme!<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3jEvT5ycfVw/WXzfu0FHZtI/AAAAAAAAR2s/MQ6d2f93cAsMGSLz8iiIrE1qYpvlrf4PACLcBGAs/s1600/shark7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="908" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3jEvT5ycfVw/WXzfu0FHZtI/AAAAAAAAR2s/MQ6d2f93cAsMGSLz8iiIrE1qYpvlrf4PACLcBGAs/s320/shark7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This fellow is a hero facing down several Night Lords in a diorama (but you will have to follow the link later in this post to see everything)! His markings are truly awesome.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tGLKqCzUaa0/WXzfxLdGKlI/AAAAAAAAR2w/cUFi40Td-kMpFWiVAXeu0caJshDMJ-7NgCLcBGAs/s1600/shark8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="908" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tGLKqCzUaa0/WXzfxLdGKlI/AAAAAAAAR2w/cUFi40Td-kMpFWiVAXeu0caJshDMJ-7NgCLcBGAs/s320/shark8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This Assault Centurion conversion is buffed out with Orruk bits and looks like he may have been affected by his Raven Guard (not confirmed by Inquisition) corrupted geneseed!<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IKE07NwU2iE/WXzf0AzGw-I/AAAAAAAAR20/jPu8ToL32PA3NWP1IpxnBAjDwKsBAT68QCLcBGAs/s1600/shark10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="908" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IKE07NwU2iE/WXzf0AzGw-I/AAAAAAAAR20/jPu8ToL32PA3NWP1IpxnBAjDwKsBAT68QCLcBGAs/s320/shark10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is something you will see in Malcharion's army that really make his infantry stand out. He utilizes World Eater and Night Lords 30k models and bits to make incredible looking Shark models that really capture the ferocity of the chapter.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h-579UHF2bE/WXzf1mSmaQI/AAAAAAAAR24/DWReBV2lvbQ_HT4Y8SfN7YBtpoD7Y93HgCLcBGAs/s1600/shark11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="681" data-original-width="908" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h-579UHF2bE/WXzf1mSmaQI/AAAAAAAAR24/DWReBV2lvbQ_HT4Y8SfN7YBtpoD7Y93HgCLcBGAs/s320/shark11.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here is another look at this great Leviathan! <br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vZb6mDEUE7A/WXzf3yW9wzI/AAAAAAAAR28/eUG-88lkcCQznPY35qViKMENDy4rvEzhQCLcBGAs/s1600/shark12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="816" data-original-width="459" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vZb6mDEUE7A/WXzf3yW9wzI/AAAAAAAAR28/eUG-88lkcCQznPY35qViKMENDy4rvEzhQCLcBGAs/s320/shark12.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
He used his drop pods as art galleries where each side provided a mural for his tribal freehand!<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VweyUtEjN3M/WXzf5_zOz0I/AAAAAAAAR3A/v9dP7W5lBaE8MyomTomMfsmleN4PRdDVgCLcBGAs/s1600/shark13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="816" data-original-width="459" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VweyUtEjN3M/WXzf5_zOz0I/AAAAAAAAR3A/v9dP7W5lBaE8MyomTomMfsmleN4PRdDVgCLcBGAs/s320/shark13.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I love this shark tribal!<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cxVgcNVDz-w/WXzf7AVvySI/AAAAAAAAR3E/Y1HsEnrIvO4SWRagRJe1haXkHVDl9t42ACLcBGAs/s1600/shark14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="459" data-original-width="816" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cxVgcNVDz-w/WXzf7AVvySI/AAAAAAAAR3E/Y1HsEnrIvO4SWRagRJe1haXkHVDl9t42ACLcBGAs/s320/shark14.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some serious plasma.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

His forum post features a collection of rhinos with really intense freehand.<br />

<br />
Some Space Sharks with a great looking contemptor in the background. Look at that World Eaters symbol repurposed for the sharks! Brilliant!<br />
<br /><br />
<br /><br />

For more of Malcharion's incredible work please go to <a href="http://www.warhammer-forum.com/index.php?/topic/224818-40k-smarines-carsharknado-up-0506-tyberos-fait-maison/&">his forum post HERE</a> <br />
<br /><br />
I love featuring artists like this here because it offers up a ton of inspiration. For instance, I have been pondering what loyalist chapter to use for my Space Marines and have really struggled. I have lately resolved to just make them Iron Warriors, but then posts like this show me that you can make loyalist Marine Chapters exciting. You just have to hunt the good stuff! <br />
<br /><br />
Here are a couple photos I pulled from Pinterest that were shared by somebody else (looking for the real artist), but I have a feeling they were inspired by the work of Malcharion. I think that is where we all hope to be someday; the inspiration to another generation of hobby, taking the next group to new heights as they stand on our shoulders! Anyway, go check out Malcharion's work! Let him know what you think!<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-KXkSDMlNE/WXzYb-rPXeI/AAAAAAAAR1o/Xz0L0akfT2QN-WDq1Gwnhsm1ymz_1ewowCLcBGAs/s1600/poxtitle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="505" data-original-width="1600" height="100" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-KXkSDMlNE/WXzYb-rPXeI/AAAAAAAAR1o/Xz0L0akfT2QN-WDq1Gwnhsm1ymz_1ewowCLcBGAs/s320/poxtitle.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been busy all this week painting Poxwalkers for the Konor Campaign (every little bit counts). I have finished off 60 of them this week, bringing my total of painted poxwalkers to 90 ... meaning 40 more to go.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kRpXcZ_G9Dk/WXzYeIj1vAI/AAAAAAAAR1s/wdk4ntE8krozg3lVMQmr8WR2mm9BDVMfgCLcBGAs/s1600/pox1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1031" data-original-width="1600" height="206" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kRpXcZ_G9Dk/WXzYeIj1vAI/AAAAAAAAR1s/wdk4ntE8krozg3lVMQmr8WR2mm9BDVMfgCLcBGAs/s320/pox1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I will be taking a break from them for now though so I can get some Bloat Drones painted, more bloat drones converted and painted and I want to get my new Typhus conversion painted too. Let's take a look at the poxwalkers and how I split the squads.<a name='more'></a><br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TYBHb9K6tV4/WXzYhQ6-5xI/AAAAAAAAR1w/RMI4eGRBXp82GuWb7UBEOiH-p1qzHUC4wCLcBGAs/s1600/pox2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="970" data-original-width="1600" height="242" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TYBHb9K6tV4/WXzYhQ6-5xI/AAAAAAAAR1w/RMI4eGRBXp82GuWb7UBEOiH-p1qzHUC4wCLcBGAs/s400/pox2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The yellow squad was also the first squad I started painting. I wanted to test really loud colors of greens and pinks on the skin and then see where it went from there. <br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4t6i_AuFovA/WXzYikPoMVI/AAAAAAAAR10/ukpGxxRC7sIneLBmg_eNVg70wOw73ztrgCLcBGAs/s1600/pox3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="932" data-original-width="1600" height="232" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4t6i_AuFovA/WXzYikPoMVI/AAAAAAAAR10/ukpGxxRC7sIneLBmg_eNVg70wOw73ztrgCLcBGAs/s400/pox3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't think the loud skin was terrible, but it wasn't something I wanted to see 100 times on the table, so I toned it down on the next few crews.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fUjNniRAUc/WXzYl_UwYKI/AAAAAAAAR14/RUr0Lk_A77M3PSs9xxHsqTXiYQ56u8f_QCLcBGAs/s1600/pox5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fUjNniRAUc/WXzYl_UwYKI/AAAAAAAAR14/RUr0Lk_A77M3PSs9xxHsqTXiYQ56u8f_QCLcBGAs/s320/pox5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The orange (and later Purple squad) used a toned-down skin approach like Duncan's. Also note that I came in later and put some powder on the land of the bases to tie them to Yellow squad.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-abEZvb1K2Ho/WXzYns78u3I/AAAAAAAAR18/cFxRqvDNl-wbiuQidw2qGTuKHiYfluxcwCLcBGAs/s1600/pox6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-abEZvb1K2Ho/WXzYns78u3I/AAAAAAAAR18/cFxRqvDNl-wbiuQidw2qGTuKHiYfluxcwCLcBGAs/s320/pox6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The Orange and Purple squads also have a few zombies actually knee deep in the toxic swamp water around their bases! This idea came from Chris Vinton who said it would look cool on a display board if they were walking into the swamp and even said the display could show some that are deeper - to a level you wouldn't want on a game piece. I like the idea, so I left the option open.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T13ANEgSFGo/WXzYplVCp0I/AAAAAAAAR2A/yJyGWEDPyLEOjVdqqQPWtepwlJo_TDbrgCLcBGAs/s1600/pox7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T13ANEgSFGo/WXzYplVCp0I/AAAAAAAAR2A/yJyGWEDPyLEOjVdqqQPWtepwlJo_TDbrgCLcBGAs/s320/pox7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A pitty orange orange highlights don't come out in photos.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3I9yjzR982E/WXzYrVlLx_I/AAAAAAAAR2E/ReyAo_iXLn8Fvd3Y9rJ7fPJ6N2S53NAPwCLcBGAs/s1600/pox8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1363" data-original-width="1600" height="272" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3I9yjzR982E/WXzYrVlLx_I/AAAAAAAAR2E/ReyAo_iXLn8Fvd3Y9rJ7fPJ6N2S53NAPwCLcBGAs/s320/pox8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Purple squad is purple, lololol.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dsi1_GHhB5g/WXzYtFTaeSI/AAAAAAAAR2I/59ApqGHn_FcwuqmBItj9T5VeMfxg4xSFQCLcBGAs/s1600/pox9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="677" data-original-width="1600" height="135" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Dsi1_GHhB5g/WXzYtFTaeSI/AAAAAAAAR2I/59ApqGHn_FcwuqmBItj9T5VeMfxg4xSFQCLcBGAs/s320/pox9.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All together and mixed up, I think the effect is pretty nice. I made tiny tweeks to many of them, so they don't look totally alike. I was worried it was too little, but when they are in crowds, nobody really notices, especially when my army includes some huge, distracting models!</div>

<br />
For years, I have wished somebody would make good Chaos gear for Rhinos, Predators, Land Raiders and well everything. Somebody finally made them!<br />
<br />
I think the "Just add spikes" approach is lazy. Forge World once had the extra armor kits, but seems to have gotten out of the 40k traitor business, which is a shame.<br />
<br />
Nowadays, what's a heretic astartes to do? I know: call the Dark Works and check out their stuff ...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xp3_iXS0NGo/WW9fo6d9VOI/AAAAAAAARjI/_UoXBj7IzEwA7mwTIyt8iJfnYHadwAU8gCLcBGAs/s1600/Traitor_Med_Armour_Mk-3_01b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xp3_iXS0NGo/WW9fo6d9VOI/AAAAAAAARjI/_UoXBj7IzEwA7mwTIyt8iJfnYHadwAU8gCLcBGAs/s320/Traitor_Med_Armour_Mk-3_01b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see, they offer some pretty great products for making your vehicles more Chaotic, from the rhino trim kit way up top to the awesome predator armorpictured just above (I am ordering three of those!). I haven't ordered anything yet, but these were recommended by Git, an artist we have featured here many times. <a href="https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/2010/395043.page">Here is a link to his awesome thread.</a><br />

<br />
They also offer tracks for all the vehicles sizes with Chaos patterns on them. No more scraping eagles off our treads ... hell, let's be honest, we just left them there.<br />
<br />

<br />
So right now, the Dark Works is out of stock, but he said he isn't out of business, just delayed. Maybe we can create a need that pulls him back to his manufactorum to crank out some sweet kits (daddy needs a new set of preds!). <br />
<br />
So far, I have 20 games of 8th edition under my belt and I have used quite a few units in my games and have developed some thoughts on those units that I figured I'd share based on experience. I have mostly played Death Guard Detachments, but I have played quite a few other detachments in Chaos as well. I have managed to collect a great winning streak and I feel like I should start tallying all the Storm Ravens I have killed (at least 15 of them). Hopefully, you can glean something from my write-up, especially if you just haven't had as much time to get games in as I have. I will limit this review to only the units I have played.<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9eiyawyzKZM/WW6ayDwqxtI/AAAAAAAARh0/w6JiLQH8CFYrevn7llM8FesLdn7dAE1TgCLcBGAs/s1600/883230_md-8th%2BEdition%252C%2BConversion%252C%2BDark%2BImperium%252C%2BPoxwalker%252C%2BWarhammer%2B40%252C000.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9eiyawyzKZM/WW6ayDwqxtI/AAAAAAAARh0/w6JiLQH8CFYrevn7llM8FesLdn7dAE1TgCLcBGAs/s320/883230_md-8th%2BEdition%252C%2BConversion%252C%2BDark%2BImperium%252C%2BPoxwalker%252C%2BWarhammer%2B40%252C000.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Poxwalkers:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: I have run most of my lists with a detachment or more of Death Guard. Poxwalkers are an excellent, cheap objective grabbing unit. They provide solid coverage because they are Disgustingly Resilient combined with not being affected by morale! If you are running DG, they are pretty much a must. I have used them to score objectives, wear down regular units (tac squads, assault squads, henchmen), envelop and hold elite units (surround a dreadnought during the pile in and he will be busy for the entire game) and to just be annoyingly in the way (flyers and people trying to shoot characters). They are also excellent bubblewrap for other units like Havocs!<br />
<br />
Cons: They are dead slow (haha). You need to remember to advance all the time with them or you will find yourself just short of objectives in late game sometimes and you really need to think a few turns ahead. They can be so much tougher with Typhus, which is sort of a con. You will find yourself making every excuse to take him, which isn't really bad as he is an excellent character, but poxwalkers are still good without him.<br />
<br />
Verdict: In DG armies, they are a source of board control and make easy fillers for Battalion Dets, giving you 3 command points for a no-brainer unit. (pun intended). <span style="color: red;">A+</span> <span style="color: #38761d;">Death Guard Unit</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T8_vGYJsfJ8/WW6a4Vy2C5I/AAAAAAAARh4/9vOB39PlwJMNWJAC9UkcF8j_np5rsywzQCLcBGAs/s1600/wh40k___typhus_by_tutho-d9q9ctl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="894" data-original-width="894" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T8_vGYJsfJ8/WW6a4Vy2C5I/AAAAAAAARh4/9vOB39PlwJMNWJAC9UkcF8j_np5rsywzQCLcBGAs/s320/wh40k___typhus_by_tutho-d9q9ctl.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Typhus:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: Typhus is an excellent HQ, combining a beefed-up Lord of Contagion and a DG sorcerer. He casts, he fights, he has a fly-pistol - he has been in almost every list I have run to date so far. His buffs to the poxwalkers also makes him a good anchor to a mass of poxwalker units. It also gives assault characters and units a little something to fear in the middle of the zombie horde. He also has some rules that make units near your DG units take a mortal wound, but I haven't had this be a game-changer.<br />
<br />
Cons: Typhus is super-duper-slow. Unless you are deepstriking him, he is crawling. His Cataphracti armor makes him slower than the poxwalkers when advancing. This means that there may be games where he does nothing more than escort slightly-tougher zombies around the board and MAYBE smite somebody.<br />
<br />
Verdict: Typhus is a great character, who is a decent psyker and a combat machine. Just remember that your zombies don't aways need him or that you can peel him off with a smaller hoard to deal with threats. I have found myself getting stuck trying to keep every poxwalker near him instead of focusing on the mission. I will say that every single person who has wandered into my backfield to attempt to fight Typhus has regretted it. <span style="color: red;">A </span><span style="color: #38761d;">Death Guard Unit</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Daemon Princes (Daemon and CSM):</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: I have taken Flying Daemon Princes from both Nurgle (CSM and CD) and Khorne (Just CD) and I have always taken them with 2x Talons. The talons outperform that axe and sword in almost every case except the axe edges out the talons in extreme cases, but I don't throw points at extremes. The Daemon Princes from Daemons are better than their CSM counterparts in most cases because they get the Daemon traits of their god. Nurgle Daemon Princes with Disgustingly Resilient are great. The downside is that the CSM have access to Warp Time, which is an incredible power, allowing you to fling units and really shake up your opponent's plans. Additionally, the CSM Daemon Prince will help you gain re-rolls of 1s to hit for CSM units. Being able to hide as a Character, Assault flyers and decimate backfield units are the reasons we take Daemon Princes.<br />
<br />
Cons: No overwatch capability. They are certainly cheap for what they do, but that 180 price tag is a little hefty compared to a Lord or Sorc. DPs lack the ability to deep strike onto the field and because of their aggressive stats, they will sometimes get caught out in the open with nothing between them and the guns! Honestly though, DPs and deepstriking characters just have two completely different roles to play and many times, they belong to different lists. 8 Wounds is great for hiding, but bad if you get caught assaulting dedicated assault units, so be careful.<br />
<br />
Verdict: These are mobile psykers with great assault power who can kill flyers. The CSM powers give you some flexibility, but if you have access to Warptime already, take the Daemon abilities!<span style="color: red;"> A++ </span>Chaos Marine Unit that can also be <span style="color: red;">A++</span> played with Death Guard.<br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Maulerfiends:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: Maulerfiends are pretty fast at 10" movement and are the absolute nightmare of vehicles and multi-wound units. Additionally, they have the Heretic Astartes keyword, allowing them to be thrown via Warptime into the opponent's deployment zone to take out a vulnerable, high-value target. Otherwise, they are good threats to keep your opponent's vehicles out of certain assault lanes. Adding Lasher Tendrils makes them true combat machines and plays to the unit's strength instead of their weakness (shooting). I have eaten units of Paladins, vehicles and characters with Maulers!<br />
<br />
Cons: They are a big target and sometimes, they may actually not be fast enough against smart opponents who can stay out of their charge range. I felt quite a few times that I wish I had a rule to advance and charge or just a rule to re-roll charges. Failed charges often led to dead Maulerfiends. Being Daemons also makes them big targets for Grey Knight Smite Spam.<br />
<br />
Verdict: At 161 for a Lash Mauler, I feel like they are still a value, but without shooting or the ability to attack fliers, they need to be looked at in terms of what the rest of your army can do. They can be very fun though. <span style="color: red;">B Chaos Space Marine Unit</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Obliterators:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: Oblits can deepstrike, have a 2+ save with a 5+ invul, Can threaten nearly anything and carry assault weapons.<br />
<br />
Cons: They are very expensive for a random weapon profile. It doesn't feel bad when you strip the last couple wounds off of a tank, but it feels terrible when you are trying to kill terminators and roll a 1 for DMG. Now you are killing terminators at half the efficiency for each failed save.<br />
<br />
Verdict: I have used them to great effect and also failed hard with them. At the end of the day I'd rather take 1 and 1/2 Havok squads for their price or just get a unit of Chaos Terminators.<span style="color: red;"> D+ Chaos Marine Unit</span><br />

<span style="color: red;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: red;"><br /></span><u><span style="font-size: large;">
Havoks:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: Havoks can huddle in cover for a 2+ save and dish out shots with four heavy weapons! Heavy Bolters are a great, cheap choice if you already have anti-tank in the bag. A unit with Lascannons is a huge threat to tanks and flyers. My love right now though is with Missile Launchers. I have smokechecked a lot of vehicles with them and surprised a lot of infantry with the volume of fire four flak missiles can generate. Add a lord near a unit with either of these guns and stand-by for extremely efficient shooting.<br />
<br />
Cons: Unless you bubblewrap, you are going to be vulnerable to sneaky assault units and deepstriking combat specialists. Unless you take larger-than-minimum units, you will lose a weapon with each wound - making the units cost a little more because 7-8 seem to be a good number of havoks. Predator tanks, however, can fill the same role, but need to lose more wounds to become ineffective, though they don't get cover nearly as easily. I think both units fill similar roles, but for different lists/ strategies.<br />
<br />
Verdict: I think Heavy Bolter and Missile Launcher Havoks get an <span style="color: red;">A+</span> for affordability and lethality/ flexibility respectfully. Lascannons get an <span style="color: red;">A- </span>from me and Autocannons are an <span style="color: red;">unknown </span>for me.<br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Foetid Bloat Drone:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: This is a relatively cheap flying unit that is extremely survivable. With a 3+ Armor save, 5++ and a Disgustingly Resilient save, this fucker isn't going anywhere. He has two potent flame weapons with poison ammo as well. I have killed two different HQs from his overwatch alone! I have also enjoyed fleeing combat to shoot his assault weapons or shooting flyers with guaranteed hits. He really shines in lower point games.<br />
<br />
Cons: While he is survivable, he doesn't do a whole lot thanks to the 9" range of his weapons. His assault capabilities are also mediocre at best and certainly don't match up to DPs or Chaos lords or even the Heldrake. In larger point games, this unit tends to be a wallflower.<br />
<br />
Verdict: Bloat drones have been great for me in 1K games with my Death Guard, but have done very little in 2k games. I have only ever taken one, but I don't see multiple drones doing much more than what one could do. <span style="color: red;">C+</span> <span style="color: #38761d;">Death Guard Unit</span>, <span style="color: red;">B+</span> in small games.<br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Heldrake:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: Heldrakes move 30 inches! They have a decent assault profile and can cause a lot of trouble down an exposed flank on turn one or can even assault units like devestators to lock them out of shooting for a turn. The Baleflamer isn't what it used to be and I have found myself either using it on small units or vehicles more than I have anywhere else. I typically use the Heldrake to help take down Stormravens and the Baleflamer comes in handy here. The autocannon is basically useless because it goes to 5+ to hit if the drake moves, but it does make the Haldrake cheaper.<br />
<br />
Cons: Heldrake is easy to hit for a flyer because it isn't supersonic. It can be assaulted by ground units. It has one gun. A single Heldrake is easy for most lists to put down and 2-3 take a lot of potential power out of your list overall.<br />
<br />
Verdict: The Heldrake is your best anti-flyer unit and a good distraction/ backfield fighter, but it comes at a cost. I'd give the baleflamer Heldrake a <span style="color: red;">B+</span> to an <span style="color: red;">A-</span> for it's pros. Be careful with it though.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<u><span style="font-size: large;">Soulgrinder:</span></u><br />
<br />
Pros: I know he isn't a CSM unit, but I used the soulgrinder a lot! First off, they come with Defiler Stats without defiler prices! The Soulgrinder is a bargain for its statline! Add Mark of Nurgle to give it Disgustingly Resilient and it will stick around for a while. I often found my opponents would waste a turn shooting at it and then give up while it is hardly injured. It can mulch multi-wound units just like the Maulerfiend, but it also cannot be pushed up the field with Warptime.<br />
<br />
Cons: It might be cheap for its stats, but it is still expensive. It comes with a 4+ BS standard, so its shooting goes to a 5+ if you move and since it is a beast in combat, you will want to be moving. It makes the Soulgrinder feel like it doesn't know what it wants to be. It's lack of specialization leaves it confused on the field. Sometimes, it is a backfield babysitter that doesn't make back its cost. Other times, its an aggressive tank that clears objectives.<br />
<br />
Verdict: The soulgrinder is a big threat, but needs to be used for a purpose. Move and shoot OR advance into an opponent's face. <span style="color: red;">B+</span> unit<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><u>Plague Marines:</u></span><br />
<br />
Pros: They are more resilient than regular CSM and I look forward to trying them with their new special weapon. The preferred load out seems to be a five-man squad with either three plasma guns (Sgt can take a weapon) or two of the blightlaunchers and a plasma. This loadout maxes their output while minimizes cost as much as possible.<br />
<br />
Cons: They are expensive and considering that you don't really need troops, there's no reason not to load up on poxwalkers and just take deadlier units. In my games, they didn't get much done and got cut from my lists. I am going to add them back in again and see how they do for a few more games.<br />
<br />
Right now, they just are too expensive for how little their role matters on the battlefield. In a game where we needed rugged troops, they'd be a deal, but not right now. They get a <span style="color: red;">C</span> for <span style="color: #38761d;">Death Guard</span> and a <span style="color: red;">D</span> for CSM.<br />
<br />
<br />
That's it for now. I have played with Abbadon and cultists and an assortment of Daemons, but not enough to weigh in and grade them with any credibility. Thanks for sticking around if you are still reading. Please comment if you have any feedback or opinions of your own. A good discussion will help us all improve out game!TJ Atwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01304177224607153451noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4101762574768178801.post-33355965792872926112017-06-27T21:42:00.001-04:002017-06-27T21:42:49.874-04:00First games of 8th Edition: Impressions of the Game and the Death Guard<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
TJ here with some 8th Edition 40k experience under my belt. I want to share the experience here for anyone who hasn't tried it yet or who wants to beef up their XP by reading about mine. Let's take a look:<br />
<a name='more'></a>First off, I got back into GW's games with Age of Sigmar and when I experienced the General's Handbook there, I saw the path to a simpler 40k that could still offer a good depth of play ... in fact, I said it would be great to almost port the rules over and hoped they would. That says a lot coming from being a tournament player in 4th, 5th and 6th edition. When they finally started leaking rules, I was happy to see that influence in the game along with some additions that made it uniquely 40k.<br />
<br />
***Also, that's a partially painted Death Guard model above. It's the direction I am going and I will talk more about it at the bottom of the post.***<br />

<br />
All of my games thus far have been 1k.<br />
<br />
My first game was against Pete's Iyanden Wraiths. This is probably the army I would have least expected to play in my first game. I brought Typhus, about 50 poxwalkers, a Nurgle CSM Daemon Prince with 2x Talons, 3 obliterators and a Heldrake with Baleflamer.<br />
<br />
Pete brought a farseer, a wraithlord, 5 wraiths with D cannons and 5 with Swords and Shields (I don't know Aeldari names).<br />
<br />
The game introduced me to the way flyers work (at least the non-supersonic variety) and taught me some of the basics. I learned that flying is strong, but isn't a huge deal for a DP that moves 8" without it. I also learned that Nurgle and CSM psychic powers are pretty powerful in terms of protecting your troops and getting key pieces across the battlefield.<br />
<br />
Mobs of cheap horde troops are still good at holding elite troops in place as I was able to pin down the sword Wraiths. The Helldrake a DP managed to take out the Wraithlord, but lost their lives to the Sword Wraiths in the process. Aeldari powers are pretty good, but nothing game-breaking (I noticed most things were good, but weren't Game breaking). Overall, Typhus didn't do anything until the end of the game, but he did buff the zombies, which was just enough math to allow them to hold out and deny kills. I also stayed the hell away from those D cannons! Overall. I learned the basics of Psykers, denying powers and a little bit about monsters/ vehicles, which are almost one and the same now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HsoLg2CGMJI/WVLwy7T-ULI/AAAAAAAARgc/s5ckQ6xV4X0r8xQa3BRNSiVGg-PCGje1wCLcBGAs/s1600/DG%2BBA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HsoLg2CGMJI/WVLwy7T-ULI/AAAAAAAARgc/s5ckQ6xV4X0r8xQa3BRNSiVGg-PCGje1wCLcBGAs/s320/DG%2BBA.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In my next game, I played against my veteran nemesis, Chuck and his Blood Angels! I brought the same list, but changed two things. I added a Bloat Drone and changed the DP to a Daemon of Nurgle DP.<br />
<br />
Chuck brought 5 Terminators, a Terminator Captain, a sanguinary priest with jump pack, two tactical squads with flamer, heavy flamer and combi-flamer (combi-weapons are amazing BTW! You get both weapons all game!). He also brought a Furioso Dreadnought with a Frag Cannon and a Heavy Flamer and a DAKKA Pred!<br />
<br />
I was truly impressed with the dreadnought and the predator in this game. The pred put out a fantastic amount of fire on a very survivable platform. It took a lot of work for me to get it's efficiency down by wounding it.<br />
<br />
Even more impressive was the Furioso Dreadnought. Dreadnoughts now feel the way they always were meant to. They have the toughness and survivability of a vehicle, but they don't lose any of their power from taking wounds. You HAVE to kill a dreadnought to stop it! I got so excited by this that I started dusting off my Helbrute sprues!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NBzTPnYYiuA/WVLw1C8y3DI/AAAAAAAARgg/NkVHC0NnDkY6yEDjrMHst7YV_bXJVbshQCLcBGAs/s1600/DG%2BBA2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NBzTPnYYiuA/WVLw1C8y3DI/AAAAAAAARgg/NkVHC0NnDkY6yEDjrMHst7YV_bXJVbshQCLcBGAs/s320/DG%2BBA2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a great game here and Chuck is always a tough opponent. We have met so many times that he knows my playstyle and I know his - regardless of game, regardless of army or edition! I learned here that deepstriking is amazing! My obliterators could be delivered turn one with surgical application! They also managed a charge, which is impressive because they needed 9 inches to get in!<br />
<br />
The way deep strike works now was very impressive and felt more like the way it appears in the books. Chuck's terminators and captain also deepstruck and delivered 4 shots per stormbolter into my ranks and threatened to level me with powerfists! He took the center of the table with the pred and dread, then dominated it with the delivery of the terminator squad. It was incredibly brutal.<br />
<br />
My reply was to lean into him with the Heldrake and DP. The Heldrake isn't a bad fighter and the fact that flying units can just leave combat and shoot now is pretty effective! He ended up killing the DP and Heldrake with the dread and terminators, but I was able to hold him in place with small zombie squads. Terminators are great in combat against other Elites, but get slowed down by hordes of zombies (poxwalkers) who don't care about multi-damage or about morale.<br />
<br />
Chuck's remaining tactical squad was swarmed by zombies (I mean Poxwalkers lolololol). At the end of the day, he had really decimated the army, but Nurgle held on with more models on the objectives and a squad of Oblits taking Linebreaker. To make matters worse, Typhus once again killed a warlord in the last turn of the game.<br />
<br />
I should also meantion that the Bloat Drone is a little slow, a little unreliable on damage output, but it really soaked up a lot of shooting. Being T7, 3+ save with a 5+ invul and the additional 5+ from Disgustingly Resilient makes them hard as nails. Had he not soaked up so much fire, I would have lost this game.<br />
<br />
****<br />
<br />
Since then I have played Chuck's Orks, which were fearsome. We played a 5-turn game, where I replaced my Heldrake, DP and Oblits with Plague Marines, a Malignant Plaguecaster and a Maulerfiend.<br />
<br />
What I learned is that every army should have a way to attempt to deny powers. My powers kept the orks from delivering their full damage potential.<br />
<br />
I learned the Maulerfiend can mulch Nob squads, but should avoid crowds of boys.<br />
<br />
I learned that orks mulch poxwalkers, even with typhus, but Typhus can kill a lot of Orks!<br />
<br />
I am still not certain about plague Marines. They didn't do much, but I also might have played them too carefully. We will see with more games.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vWEpTjje9nI/WVLw7GXcBmI/AAAAAAAARgk/oiAF8hUuFyIq4BuM0oSaAuo0UFdL0pqZwCLcBGAs/s1600/DGgrey.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vWEpTjje9nI/WVLw7GXcBmI/AAAAAAAARgk/oiAF8hUuFyIq4BuM0oSaAuo0UFdL0pqZwCLcBGAs/s320/DGgrey.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, I am heading heading to Michigan for a couple weeks and look forward to more games. I am going to whip out Helbrutes, Plague Marines, Plaguebearers and maybe even Magnus for shits and giggles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for the army, I have decided the Death Guard in my forces will have a toxic swamp theme, so I needed a little something for the bases. I wanted bubbles and didn't feel like GS'ing a million of them. Instead, I went to the local craft store (Michaels or Hobby Lobby in the US) and I found these half-pearls in the scrapbook section under a sign that said "bling."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The bling pearls come in several sizes on the save roll (like a tape roll covered in fake pearls) for about $5. There are enough on a roll for me to do all 3 sets of Dark Imperium models I own and probably enough to retro-base some of my existing models. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You could use these ready made bubbles for nearly anything from lava to magic goo to toxic swamps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In any case, I am loving the New 40k. Nothing seems like a bad choice and my list creation feels like it is more about my intended play style and less about killer units of broken horseshit. I am having a ton of fun now and it is great to see so many players coming back from semi-retirement to play some games!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How do you feel about 8th? How about my test model? How about them pearls?</div>
