DUST Allies Mickey Walker Painted Up!

Old School here with my kill point for the week, this time, I am showing off my first DUST Warfare model; the Mickey! When I first saw Paulo Parente's artwork for DUST Tactics, the Mickey was the very first walker I saw and I thought it was cool and I wanted to paint one some day. It is fitting then that my first model in my Allies army is the famous M2 Medium Walker. Let's take a look at the pics:

Easy Camouflage Patterns with Silly Putty Masking!

Old School here to share a quick tip for those of you who want to use camouflage in your armies. I have struggled with tape and paint-on stuff for some time and never got the actual camo effect I have seen on various vehicles in my military career. I read about using Silly Putty for masking on a WWII forum and decided to give it a try ...

Dust Axis Zombies

CVinton here to post my first painted Dust Warfare stuff. I love the axis zombies so of course they would be the first thing I painted. After cleaning the mold lines, disassembling a little and repriming I was ready to paint.

I want to go with the prisoner theme so they have the classic concentration camp wear. After that they needed a little more gruesome of a look so out came the blood effect.

A little cork basing material with some plasticard tile pieces and the bases were done. I would have liked to use the brick style plasticard but being the middle of the night I really didn't have it available.

I'm very happy with how these guys turned out and am excited for the next Dust stuff I have to paint.

Alright already... lets talk about what went right..

There has been a lot of crying, a lot of calling out issues and a lot of questions with 6th Edition, yet perhaps it is time to take a step back, with the acknowledgement that some things need clarity, and take a moment to praise some of the -GREAT- things we have gotten with the new rule set. (and i don't mean just things that benefit my army)

First off and primary to my enjoyment of the game overall is the new and improved missions. I am loving every bit of it, It got quite tiring to play the same three setup/mission combos over and over again at the FLGS and then once again at a local tournament.  (I know that some tournaments used other things, but still...) Which more than anything has resulted in the less importance on kill points than before (yay!)

The chances of you playing two games that are nearly the same setup, with the same mission and objectives is extremely rare now with the advent of mysterious terrain and objectives which add a thread of variety to each and every game (and yes I am of the opinion that those rules are not optional, they are not presented as such in the rule book, so why do we think that they can be?) To em this variety and excitement of never quite knowing what things are going to be like make the player have to anticipate far more than you used to, making the game far more thematic as well as thought provoking.  So if you find your games getting a bit stagnant  make sure you -USE- these rules, from the terrain and archeotech things to the mysterious objectives.

What do you guys think is the greatest thing about the new edition? Do you think it is the new way terrain works? The new missions? Or perhaps it is the allies chart or the something else?

Once again, if you readers have anything you would like me to cover in a post (I recommend Imperial Guard questions but hell I will give any subject a shot as long as it pertains to 40k) shoot me an email at imasentinel@gmail.com

Until next time, burn some heretics, kill some mutants, and do it always.....

FOR THE EMPEROR!

Axis Flier Prototypes spotted at Gencon!

OST here with a little update Cvinton sent me from the floor at GenCon: here are pics of the prototypes for the axis fliers - German Jets!

Gen Con Dust Models preview

CVinton here.  Now that I've joined OST in falling in love with Dust, I've been around the Fantasy Flight booth a lot and here are some shots of all the preview models that are scheduled to be released fourth quarter.  Most of the pictures have a tag in front so if you're curious what they are just read the tag.  The French have thrown their Beret's in the ring being an ally unit for Germany it looks like.  Pretty excited to see that as a new German player.

Dual tank kit for the SSU.

SSU mortar and flak tanks.

German walker.  Looks kind of troop transporty.

German weapon teams.

Pics from the 40k 6th edition Starter Set

Old school here with some pics that are likely from the new 40k starter set. If so, this is by far the best quality starter set yet.

Check out these photos courtesy of http://apocalypse40k.blogspot.com/2012/08/leaked-dark-vengence-images.html?m=1

Let's hear what you think. I personally am blown away.

Gen Con live coverage

2012 Indy Header ImageI've packed up the pile of Michigan friends and made the journey to the great city of indianapolis for the 45th (and my 7th) GenCon!

This year is with my normal group of non-40k friends so if you're not that interested in games other than 40k you might take a pass on these posts (though I will be throwing in stuff about any new release sneak preview games I can) but I strongly recommend staying tuned in and find out more about a game con that had over 36,000 attendees last year and is expected to have even more this year.

DUST Warfare: Calling All Bloggers

Old School here putting a call out for all DUST blogs and forums. I plan to make some additions to the rolls and do a post featuring what we come up with, so pimp it!

Old School Terminator Moves to North Carolina!

Olds School here and in case you have been wondering what the hell is going on here lately, I have been in the process of moving my household from Michigan to North Carolina. I am in now and should have regular internet access an things like that soon. As it happens, I am between two local game stores. One in Jacksonville called the Hobby Chest, which I am pretty familiar with (played there back in '09) and Rules of Engagement in Havelock, NC. I plan to visit both stores and get some games in and see what kind of stuff I can stir up! If anybody out there is a local, let me know and maybe we can meet up!

DUST Warfare: An interview with Paolo Parente, Introducing DUST Chronicles

Old School here with a little something different. Since DUST Tactics first came out, I have had an eye for their crazy walking tanks and Pulp WWII background. When DUST Warfare came out and was being shown at Adepticon, I was skeptical, but very interested given the scale of the models and the opportunities I saw for painting great looking vehicles.

This Summer, I spent some time in Maryland and saw a lot of people playing DUST Warfare at Dropzone Games and finally, I decided to make this my next game system. I have been slowly getting involved with it since, but I found some folks at DUST Chronicles who have already taken it to the next level and created a magazine for the community. Here is an interview they featured in the first issue with Paolo Parente, which gives some great insight into the man who created the game and where the game may be heading.

DFG Painting Challenge Update: Fear to Dread

Old School here with a quick post. I would like to say that I have not been super diligent on the blog this last week, nor will I next week. I am between locations and moving my family, so I am without my paints or my minis. It's been a fun break, but some things on this blog, I consider commitments, like the Painting Challenege. This week, Brian from Lead Legion has a Chaos Dreadnought for us. Here is what he had to say:
