Happy New Year from DFG! 2012 in Review

Old School Terminator here to take a walk back through 2012 for the DFG crew, highlighting some of the things we did and where the blog has been in the past year. Of course, none of this would ever be possible without a lot of hard work and dedication from members of the team, so before we get started, I want to take a moment to thank my fellow authors here as well as non-author members of the DFG team for making this little blog what it is - Whether it is through direct contributions, advice, motivation or tournament judging, you guys have made running this blog a great time and have helped me through not only the daily grind of running it, but also have provided the motivation for a lot of projects.

I also want to thank the blogging community as a whole. You guys kick ass. We are only just getting into becoming a hub, but even before we started linking articles or building a network, there are tons of bloggers out there who have given us inspiration (HUGE AMOUNTS of it!) and have also encouraged us along the way. In the future, I will look to adding some of you to the role of authors here, if you would have it, since you have in a way been contributors here whether you know it or not.

Finally, I want to thank the FLGSs where we play as there really would be no reason for any of this without them. So a big shout out to the folks at Evolution Games, AFK, The Fortress, Dropzone Games, Games and Stuff, Titan, Game Links, Rules of Engagement, Hobby Chest and any other place where we have hung our hobby hat that I may not have named!

Before this gets too mushy, let's look at some of my favorite stuff from 2012:

Merry Christmas from our Family to Yours!

The whole crew at DFG wishes all of our friends and readers a merry Christmas. We hope that you cherish the older people who helped bring you up in this world as well as the children who are so full of life. Hold your loved ones near and dear and on this day if no other, thank them for all of their live and support. May all of us, if only for a few seconds, remember the childlike wonder of this holiday and for a moment listen for the sound of St. Nick laughing from the skies overhead.

Wolfson Survived Iron Painter

Hello everyone Wolfson here to let you know that I not only survived the Apocalypse but more importantly survived Iron painter and won that awesome trophy you see above.  The Iron painter was hosted at Dropzone games in Glen Burnie Maryland from 12pm friday the 21st to 12pm friday the 22nd.  The crew spent 24 Hours straight painting, gaming and holding off any craziness the Apocalypse could throw at us including zombies.  We did have some rules to keep things civil during this event.  You could enter in one of three categories with a cold hearted 4th category that i will explain in a second.  The cetgories were based on model count and consisted of small medium and large.  The catch however is none of the models can start painted besides a base coat and some people even built and converted models before starting and had to be a playable force for whatever game system you were painting.  Small was 10 to 19, Medium 20 to 29 and Large was everything else.

Leaked Dark Angels Pictures!

Well Merry Flippin' Everything, folks.  Christmas came early and the fat man in red dropped a January White Dwarf in someone's lap!

We saw them over at Pins of War, and it looks like they were found originally and posted by ZombieDK over at Dakka.  All credit and props to those who deserve it, now on to the eye candy!!

Do your other hobbies influence your mini's hobby?

Most people in the world of miniatures have more than one hobby, whether it be two or three mini games themselves, or perhaps a board game obsession or perhaps even into RPGs. No matter what, one hobby will influence your others, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.

Quick Tip for Battlefoam

Check out what I found really quick after a weekend talk at the hobby shop.

These are 5/10$ banker boxes meant for storing your files. After years of searching for a bag alternative these guys were right under my nose. It's a barely tight fit but they definitely work. Enjoy.

To Parents

OST and I are parents. I know I've been touched by the tragedy in Connecticut and I just have to take a second to pour my heart out to the 20 mothers and 20 fathers and 40 grandfathers and 40 grandmothers and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters who all lost the most precious thing in the world today; a child.

Take time to be a parent today. Pick your child up and kiss and hug them. And if you dont have children call your parents and tell them you love them.

Out hearts go out to today.

Building a Better Hobby: The DFG Community Project

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dark Future Games is changing and we are taking you with us. Old School here to ask you to join us in building a better Dark Future Games. We have always been kind of a commune of sorts, but it has been poorly represented here to the web. We want this to be a blog for other bloggers and for our readers as much as it is a place for us. The problem is that this format has always been a way to talk at people instead of with them. That has all changed as of today.

Showcase: Inquisitor Lazarus Antrecht and retinue

Hey everyone, KrautScientist here. Today I would like to show you something a little different from my last to posts (showcasing my World Eaters and Traitor Guard, respectively): I would like to introduce you to the wonderful world of “INQ28”:

What the heck is INQ28?  I hear you asking. Well, basically it’s the GW game “Inquisitor” played at the 28mm heroic scale instead of its native 54mm. But why would you want to do that in the first place?

The Daemon Prince: A Second Look by SeerK

SeerK here. Well I have finalized my list for the Adepticon GT. My Iron Warriors will be marching to battle against, well, everybody. After really crunching numbers and looking at all the options available I decided to go with a Daemon Prince for my HQ.

Now I know what some of you are saying; Why a Daemon Prince? He's so expensive and is not as good as the other HQ choices in the codex. I will give you the points thing. He is expensive. He can still clock in under Abbadon though. Not only that, but after the very abbreviated FAQ on the Chaos Codex, the Daemon Prince gains access to some new toys that can really make them one-man wrecking machines. Let's look at the Daemon Prince shall we?

Ok, so the Base Prince is 145 points. You can upgrade him to be a Daemon of one of the four Chaos Gods. You can also slap some wings on him. A winged Prince base is 185 points. Pretty hefty I know, but he is much more mobile and survivable with the wings. As a flying monstrous creature he can engage air and ground targets. This is factors into how you equip the prince as well, but I am a little ahead of myself. For anybody that has read my blog,Craftworld Lansing, you know I am a big fan of utility. Eldar armies are full of specialists and having multi-role utility units, even among specialists, is a big plus when you are looking for army synergy. So a Prince being able to deal with air and ground targets, very effectively I might add, adds lots of value and makes the points spent worth it.
