Hiv Fleet Behemoth Swarmlord; The Bane of Calgar!
Old School here to present my Hive Fleet Behemoth Swarmlord to the world. I slowly fell in love with using Swarmy in my lists over the spring and finally decided to get him built when the model came out, but really took some time when it came to painting him. Now that he is done, I am happy that I took my time (well, between Death Wing and Crons anyway). Here are some pics of the big guy!
I used the same techniques here that I used across the rest of my Hive Fleet Behemoth army so far and the technique just seems to shine more the bigger the model is!
For the actual model, I used the bottom half of the flying Tyrant and the torso, head and arms of the Swarmlord. I wanted him to be dynamic and threatening as he stalked through the ruins, killing Space Marines in his search for a worthy foe.
This one was not worthy, but it matters not to the Great Devourer.
I just love the blue and red scheme of the post-third Behemoth Fleet and I really do think that Swarm Lord might be one of the best models I have ever painted. I certainly think he is imposing to view on the battle field and I will likely paint his Tyrant Guard next.
I think I might need to make his guard look like a bunch of ninjas, like he does though. That is something I wasn't really thinking about when I made him, but hey, I am up for the challenege. I am a Tyranid player afterall!
While the three tones of red may seem striking, what really draws the eye is the blue carapace, which is made up of black and four shades of blue as well. If anybody is interested in the mix, just leave a comment and I will give it to you.
Anyway, that is my KP for this week and I hope you enjoyed it. Please let me know what you think of my Kung-Fu Swarmlord!

That thing is fantabulous! Nice work, OST!
ReplyDeleteThave been thanks man, I have been preaching the word of the Tentacle Maker in Maryland. E-mail me and I will give you the contacts for a local distributor!
DeleteStrong the Hive Mind is with you.
ReplyDeleteGod he is a sexy beast. I think this is the best model you have done. Man I really wish I could give my Avatar the same treatment.
Take your time and you will get him to the point you are satisfied with. You are a good painter and I think you can do it.
DeleteAbsolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I love the fluid pose. It is hard to get 4 swords to look like anything other than a blender, but you have achieved a great look on Swarmy. The paint is great too. I love the legs and entrails of the marine on the base. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Your Nids have always blown me away, so I am humbled by your comment!
DeleteAwesome job!
ReplyDeleteThanks man, it means a lot from another painter!
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome pose and an awesome paint job! and that character... never played against the Swarmlord but just looking at his stats in the book, if you get within charge range i imagine you're pretty much done. i can't imagine ANYONE going toe to toe with that thing and coming out alive.
ReplyDeleteMan, that looks absolutely fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGreat work, OST! And I am not even particularly fond of Tyranids to begin with ;-) He looks awesome, though!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work - the pose is very dynamic and the whole model oozes menace. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGreat work, probably the best model I've seen painted on this site.
