Old School here to help get the word out that new FAQs are up for most of the 40k books, including the brand spanking new Dark Angels! CSM got some interesting new items like
the Heldrake is now considered as having a turret, which means it can for 360, to include behind it! Noise Marines got the ability to take Blastmasters per every 5 Marines and more ... Also on the Chaos Daemons front, for all of you thinking they would nerf the Epidemius tally working on CSM units, they simply defined zombies as not being considered Nurgle marked.
There is much more going on out there, including some interesting changes to the Big Rule book. I suggest getting out there and checking them all out so you can understand your own army as well as what you are up against. Check it out here
We would love to see any gems you found in our comments section as well as what you think of the (some would consider contreversial) changes implemented!
Mycetic Spore got 6" disembarkation!
ReplyDeleteNothing else for nids, no repealing of the inability to use emplaced weapons as they promised in my communications with them. So much for my scratch bult quad gun :(

I still don't understand the artificial limitations like primes not being able to pod in. Sometimes I just think they intentionally are giving Nids a hard time.

DeleteAlthough I'm over that now but I still think that Broodlords should get a re-roll for Witchfire spells as they would if they generated a psychic power greater than their mastery or a power they had already rolled. Thoose two chances to reroll are based on fairness, and fluff wise they wouldn't learn somethign beyond their powers or what they already knew therefore they would learn shooting attacks that they had no concept of what 'shooting' was. Victimization is what it is ;)
Yeah, upon closer inspection, I found that if you purchase Noise Marines one may take a blastmaster, then if the squad numbers ten or more, you may add an additional blastmaster, which means ten man squads can rock two blastmasters. Not too shabby!
ReplyDeleteAlso you use the Heldrake's base to measure range for the weapon, meaning the baleflamer as a turret now not only can fire behind the drake, but also got some extended range doing so.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, the DA FAQ is basically saying "yeah, we didn't really edit this thing" also, they managed to add a special character to the book via the FAQ. Way to go, GW!
ReplyDeletePoor Tau need a 6 to hit with a seeker missile now against fliers. That sucks for them. I know some Tau players where using the rule that they could auto hit with the missile as long as the markerlight hit.
ReplyDeleteVindis override LOS
ReplyDeleteBlessings can be cast after reserves
Can only kill models in range of the unit
Necrons dont explode
Eldar powers no longer work out of vehicles
With regard to blessings after reserves, does that mean I can use a blessing after arriving from deepstrike?
DeleteMuch to process.
ReplyDeleteBut, DA clarifications were nice and quick. Glad the RW Cmmnd Sqd can take the Dev. Banner as expected.
Chaos....Slaanesh just became the Shiznit and CSM troops are now no longer hard to include in your force.
I knew the Abby thing would get rectified...though did not get the ability to make all dedicated elites troops.
I am glad about the range limitation on shooting, makes ton more sense.
Overall, Good Stuff.

I havent read all the FAQ's yet but some of the ones I have read are horribly written. The range limitation on shooting for example the way its written it says the squad can not hit a model that is not in range of any of the squad so if u have 30 ork boyz with some big shoota's in the squad then the normal shoota's can still hit things that are in range of the big shoota, I get that they did not want to nerf short range high S & AP things like plasma pistols and melta guns but if u have a weapon with a large range in a squad now makes the whole clarification useless. The other one was the Heldrake's baleflamer update, the question asks where u take LOS from but the answer dosen't really state where LOS is taken from just that its a turret but not where the turret is for LOS purpases. Good to see them keeping the updates coming but it needs a little more proof reading.
ReplyDeleteAnon, the shooting doesn't necessarily allow plama pistols to shoot at autocannon range. I would check that out again. As far as the turret thing goes. Read the rule for turret weapons, they have a 360 degree arc (which is vehicle LOS) and with it being measured from the base, that thing can pretty much always reach out and touch somebody.
ReplyDeleteHi OST,
DeleteSorry I think i worded the shooting one badly, guess i need to do more proof reading as well lol.
What I ment was in the case of the 30 boyz which have 27 shootas and 3 big shootas lets say they shoot at a 40 man blob squad but only 10 guards men are in range of the 54 shoota shots and all 40 are in range of the big shootas the way its worded if all 40 are in range of the big shootas then all 40 can also take wounds from the shootas.
For the turret thing LOS and range is taken from the barrel weapon which is fireing on a vehicle if i remember correctly (im at work right now and dont have a rulebook). In this case the where is the LOS taken from? I dont mind that it can fire 360 and that its measured from the base, its just the LOS question was never really answered. Heres the FAQ.
Q: How do I determine the Arc of Sight for a Heldrake’s ranged weapon? (p52)
A: Treat the Heldrake’s ranged weapon as a Turret Mounted Weapon, measuring all ranges from the edge of the Heldrake’s base nearest to the target unit.
So is the head of the Heldrake counted as a turret and if so does that mean that the body could potentally block its LOS? (Dont know if thats possable as I havent seen the model in real life)
hope that clears up my questions.
Alright, yeah, it is a little crazy on the ruling for shooting. Why wouldn't you just have the guard player take the big shoota wounds on anybody. It's an odd way they decided to streamline things. As far as the turret goes, the head dips down lower than the body, which would lead to weird arguemnts about where the turret rotates, the head or the shoulders. I think the idea was that it could just LOS 360 like a predator tank would. Again, it seems like streamlining for the sake of streamlining. Honestly, it just makes me want to take three drakes instead of two (poor bikers).
DeleteI think the bigger question is how to you determine where the LOS is determined from. As we measure from the base i would argue that its from the base, just like -any- other vehicles weapon. That seems a bit silly of course because, well its -really- close to the ground and would prevent it from seeing a lot of things.
DeleteThe base is basically where you put the tape measure, they didn't say you drew line of sight, only distance from the base. The turret part is where you get 360 field of vision, which I would say if from the head, which would give you a wide range around the whole model.
ReplyDeleteAs I would imagine it would be, which was why the question was asked in the first place. That FAQ was indeed poorly written from that perspective.Because it is a turret measured from the base, the precedent for all other vehicle weaponry is from where you measure from.
DeleteAlso by clarifying that this is a turret mounted weapon they left in the air the question of every other flyers weapon as to what it is. Prime example is the Vendetta. As we officially do not have a vendetta model, we have just been putting them where the other guns have previously gone. However there are no rulings on what kind of mount the lascannons are, and if we go by precedent, which is all we can go on since they have made a ruling on one flyer now, the weapons are turret mounted.
