Feast of Blades Coverage - Friday

For a first time venture outside of his typical convention comfort zone, Miniature Tim will be participating in and covering the Feast of Blades!

Alright, alright, I won't talk in the third person any more, I can see the cringes already...  I will be providing coverage on the entire weekend though.

On to the report!

This is a bit of a double whammy for me as not only am I traveling outside of the Midwest for an event and tournament, I'm also flying with my army for the first time.  I had purchased the PACK Go from Battlefoam about a year ago now to be a much more portable solution to transporting a 2000 point army.  They didn't ask me to check it in, and I made it through airport security without being asked to explain a bunch of little army men...yet.  Fully packed, the bag is roughly 15x12x18.5 in dimension.  Unfortunately, my plane's overhead compartment couldn't handle a 12" height of a carry on.  Of course, I didn't realize this until after they had closed the doors.  Luckily there was one seat open that they could strap the bag into safely.  Not sure what will happen on the flight home, but I don't relish the thought of checking it for fear of damage to my army.  Maybe I'll bite the bullet and purchase a PACK Air at FoB, we'll see what happens.

I'll be playing in the Open GT at Feast, which runs 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.  The Open is a 2000 point tournament, and is allowing fortifications, allies, the 2nd FoC, as well as Forge World units that have been stamped "40k Approved". This will be the first time I've ever participated in a game with all four of those elements live, much less a national event!  To say it'll be an interesting experience is putting it lightly.

What did I bring to combat the heretical masses with?  2000 points of Grey Knights, of course!  My list looks something like this:

HQ: Lord Kaldor Draigo

Elites: Vindicare Assassin

Troops:
6 Paladins
  2 Psycannons
  Psybolt Ammo
  Nemesis Warding Staff
  Apothecary Upgrade

10-man Grey Knight Strike Squad
  Daemon Hammer
  2 Psycannons
  Psybolt Ammo

Fast Attack:
10-man Grey Knight Interceptor Squad
  Daemon Hammer
      Mastercrafted
  5 Halberds
  2 Psycannons
  Psybolt Ammo

Heavy Support:
Dreadnought (x3)
  Autocannon Right Arm
  Autocannon Left Arm
  Psybolt Ammo

Fortifications:  Aegis Defense Line with Quad Gun

Yes, the Aegis Defense Line is in direct response to flyers, and yes, my Vindicare will be manning it.  Yes, the Vindicare.  No, you heard me right.  No, I'm not crazy...don't be hatin'.

The main event I took place in on Friday night is the Bloggers Roundtable.  Streamed by 40K Nation, there was Brent from Strictly Average and BoLS, Goatboy, Big Red and Darkwynn from BoLS, Chumbalaya from Blackjack and Hookers, Duke/Chandler from Duke's Inferno and BoLS, Sir Biscuit from 3++, Rob Baer from Spikey Bits, Next Level Painting made a brief appearance, and then yours truly!  Was a ton of fun, everyone gave and got crap from each other, some more than others, and some actual, good discussion came of it as well.

So all in all, a great first day!!  Apparently I'm supposed to drink a ton of water since I'm not used to the elevation in Denver, and considering that beer is mostly water, I might just grab a few with all the great folks this weekend... There's also this crazy rumor that alcohol affects people quicker at these elevations who aren't used to them.

...I'll let you know how that turns out.

  1. Sounds fun! I will be watching for more reports. I am very interested to see how the tournament goes. Adding in all of the options in 6th for this tournament should be 'interesting' as you say.

  2. So far I'm seeing allies and fortifications used VERY heavily. I haven't seen a second FoC yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't out there, and the only Forge World units I've seen are Tau Tetras. Honestly, I'm not sure people are used to the idea that you can use FW models in a large event, so they don't play with them. That, and lets be honest, they get expensive.

We'll see how this goes! Two more games today, then Mordian7th and I are gonna hang out for a bit :)
