Iron Warriors Rhino - The Rust Bucket - DFG Painting Challenge!

Old School is back in the ring with the painting challenge! I am here to unveil the Rust Bucket, an Iron Warriors Rhino that looks like it needs some CLP and a wire brush! There are plenty of pics, so let's dive right in ...

I used the same techniques I used for the Dreadclaw Drop Pod Conversion, but taken to an extreme level and added a few touches, like sponge work and a couple spots of salt chip (too much salt chip or masking would be uncalled for as the tank is supposed to be bare metal, so I used it to raise up areas as rust would rot a 55gal drum.
I used traditional stencil style masking for the hazard stripes and then came through and weathered them with bright mythril steel scrapes to show fresh damage and plenty of airbrush dotted rust (bestial brown and Calthan foundation) with a wash of Gryphonne Sepia to give depth to the rust (though the old camera hardly shows the variant colors).
Of course no heretical vehicle would be finished without some devotion to the Pantheon.

again, this plate is a late addition and the heretics treat the "Eyes of Aversion" with a little more respect as even the Iron Warriors, as pragmatic as they are, need a little faith when it comes to rear armor.

I even took some time to rust out and weather the bottom, not that anyone cares about the bottom of a rhino! Anyway, it was a fun diversion from the commission work and the Nids that I have been doing in batch stages. Look for more Iron Warriors stuff as time goes on here and if you haven't checked out the challenge, make sure you check it out!

  2. Bah! I just realized I forgot to paint the viewfinders on the tank commander's turret ... that should be a quick one though.
