Pics of Castellan Crowe and Jokaero Weaponsmith!

Old School here with some pics of Castellan Crowe (the Grey Knight who allows Henchmen (ed: you mean Purifiers) as troops) and the anticipated Jakaero (I could have swore that Rogue Trader said they were Toads ... oh well). Anyway, let's take a look at these photos and see what we think.
Castellan Crowe is pretty descent (for a good guy). I like the two handed sword look and the small detailed script laid into the shoulder pad is a nice touch. The model is stepping forward, but still looks a little static to me (kind of like how Vulcan is supposed to look full of motion, but really just looks like a frozen ribbon twirler). In any case, though, not too shabby and I think Grey Knight fans will be happy to field this model along with their fancy new plastic.

And now, the mini-obliterator-armorless-monkey-thing: The jokaero weaponsmith. This little monkey has the gun morphing ability to create lascannons, heavy flamers and multi-meltas and though he wears no armor and has the laughable WS1, these guys can also be fielded in the same squad as the Crusader with a 3+ Storm Shield, which makes them a little more problematic to say the least. I can imagine these squads combined with dreads making a pretty good firing base for the army.
As far as the model goes, I am not a big fan of the monkey, especially for $12, but to each his own.

Now I turn it over to you, what do you think of these models? Think they are awesome? Think they could have been batter? Going to convert your own? Let's hear what you have to say.

Also, special thanks to Wraithgate for snagging these pics, which I then snagged! Wraithgate's blog is one I lurk in quite frequently and I recommend checking it out!

  1. Just a note (I added a small edit): Crowe makes Purifiers troops. Henchmen are made troops by Inquisitor Lord Cortez.

  4. I'm very happy that they've actually followed through with including the Jokaero - it was always one of my favorite things from the original RT-era book, savant weaponsmiths that couldn't be detained or forced to work, as they'd just bend their prodigious technological abilities to making escape devices. I'm not sure if it's still the case but at the time they were the sole creators of all digital weapons. Doesn't matter what the stats are on the tabletop, you can be assured that I'll be picking up a couple to amble alongside my radical Ordo Xenos inquisitor (along with his Demiurge, Kroot, Ork, Eldar and Hrud retinue)...

  5. How about putting a 5 man Jokaero firebase in a Chimera, which henchmen have access to. That could make a pretty awesome parking lot.

  6. I'm with Mordian on this one, I'm die hard old school and am really glad to see the Jokero of the classic RT days return. Those Toads you were thinking of were the Slann.

Be warned though, they're Apes not Monkeys, they get very upset when you get that wrong. Ook! ;)

  7. That is a model I whole-heartedly disapprove. The idea of a weapon-toting space monkey included in the inquisition is plainly ridiculous. Definitely a model which will never see my tabletop.
Actually I cannot understand how they could be included in this codex. The purest and "best" marine chapter and the most faschistic organisation, the inquisition, hand in hand with xeno-monkeys... I don't get it.

But every codex has it downfalls. All else until now seems quite cool to really nice (e.g. the terminators!). And there is always a way to take something else as a model to represent the monkey rules...

  8. Would it be fun to base a grey knight army around the idea of planet of the apes?

  9. Managarm what's inconsistant with Psychic Fashists mind-controlling the tech-monkey? Who else would have managed to tame the Jokaero?
