Old School here with a painting update on the Super Blog Chain Give-away prizes - well the Ironclad anyway. I decided to start the project off with Chosen1's (from Team Snake Eyes) Ironclad because he was the first winner and painting good guys isn't something I do every day.
.
Here is a sneek peek of the work done so far. Most of the hammer arm is done, except for a few items on the hammer and the last touch of scorpion green highlighting. In terms of highlighting, I saw that Chosen1's Vulcan Hestan Conversion (I don't even wat to know what Ron charged for that awesome model) had extreme highlighting and since I have never done it, I wanted to teach myself (thank god it seems to be working so far). I know it is a little much right now, but once the scorpion goes on and a coat or two of thinned thrakka go on, it will provide a much smoother transition. The flames and the symbol turn out very well so far and I am now debating adding scorch marks around it. I originally was going to make it look like an icon, but I could not resist the flame effect painting!
.
Anyway folks, plenty of work to do, but it should be done Thursday or Friday and then it is time to paint the Libby dread for Damien! Let me know what you all think! Hope you are happy so far Chosen1!
Something about that highlight style is completely acceptable for miniatures. I started using it and it works for the quick glance and even some close inspection if you are smooth with your lines but while you're doing it and when you're looking at it after you're done you just feel like a cheap whore.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, I love that color and have always wanted to play salamanders deep down inside just to run terminators and landraiders like every 12 year old 40k players dream.
That's looking really nice! I've never been able to paint green correctly but you've got the touch on it.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'm thinking the Scorch Marks would fit in really nicely as well around the flames with some odd embers in there as well
Thanks Damien.
ReplyDelete@CVinton, having been exposed to the eye-aching "pure snot green" stage in painting these and trying to get it highlighted in a way that brings out the dynamic angles of the ironclad, I started to do half of the dread with traditional highlighting anf half in the block style and it looked so much better on the block side - something about it makes the green pop and brings out the bronze flame and boltgun colors. I wouldn't change it unless the client wanted something different after seeing it.
The only thing I want is more of the same. That Ironclad looks like I pulled it right out of my case with the rest of his battle-brothers. I don't know about Old School, but painting green with foundation paints as a base was so much easier than trying to do it without. Superb work man, really. I look forward to seeing what you do for Damian too!
ReplyDeleteLooking very good!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of chunky line highlights on Space Marine vehicles, so this is ace!
