The Spring Friendly

Spring is a pretty common time for me to get off my ass and actually run an event for my local 40K community.  After tossing around ideas with my teammates at Adepticon, I stole one of Adepticon's themes and decided to run a 40K Friendly.

What is a 40K Friendly you might ask?  Well, it's a day to get together and throw some dice, have some laughs and show off your hobby talent.  While the games themselves will still have the element of competition, we're removing the emphasis on competition for the day and are shifting the focus to fun lists, great attitudes, and pretty armies.

The ultimate goal of the event is to bring players together and meet new people and hopefully expand our playing group a little bit.  If you don't have a painted army, don't let that deter you from coming and having a great time.

If you're in the mid-Michigan area, I hope you can make it.  You won't be disappointed!

  1. Cool idea. We've always wanted to do something like this in our area, but our FLGS crowd leans toward competitive. Having an event that didn't reward the Best General would likely meet with resistance and the question of "Why play games in a tournament format if the games' outcome doesn't matter to prizes?"

    1. Many in our area have this view point as well. This is a concerted effort to change some attitudes a little bit. Also notice that the title says "Event" and not "Tournament".

I'm hoping this event will appeal to those in the area who don't come out to tournaments because they don't want to participate in competitive play.

  2. I believe this style of tournament (if any!) is what GW intends with their game. I can't wait!
