Leaked Dark Angels Pictures!

Well Merry Flippin' Everything, folks.  Christmas came early and the fat man in red dropped a January White Dwarf in someone's lap!

We saw them over at Pins of War, and it looks like they were found originally and posted by ZombieDK over at Dakka.  All credit and props to those who deserve it, now on to the eye candy!!

Of course I saved the flyer for last.  Like you expected something else?  I'll be honest, I've got to digest, pic these things apart and and then maybe I can give a more comprehensive review of them,  For now, it's all just eye candy.  Although, the Flyer is much more attractive than the remake of the Cobra Trouble Bubble that is the Storm Talon.

I'm just sayin'.

Reactions?  Thoughts?  Whose wallet is screaming right now?

  2. Yay, more Space Marines.
Guess we'll just have to kill them by playing an army that isn't Space Marines...

  3. That landspeeder better do something cool to that ugly.

  4. Is it just me or does Belial have the most uninspired pidgeon-toed stance ever sculpted? Would you really want this figure to lead your army, very disappointed, I'd rather have the Land Speeder...!

    1. Agreed re the sculpts lately. What is with all the static poses? First CSM and now this? Are they compensating for F-cast or trying to make the sculpts look more heroic with big gestures? It's weird and makes me feel all convert-y :)

    4. You guys are right after taking a second look it definitely isn't a special character... I don't dislike it though... maybe the paint job on the angel thing but the speeder as a whole.... mmmmm not sure wanna see one in person

  6. Though I like both the flyers and excited to examine the rule set...and I am sitting on a ton of DA bikes, etc.....the skimmers do resemble that old VDR speeder made out of a speed stick tube.

  7. I am very disappointed with the studio lately. When you look at the Dark Eldar line an pretty much anything new from Fantasy, you can see what they are capable of. Then you step over to 40k and you are met with the pretty terrible Chaos release, particularly the daemon engines, followed by these static terminators and speeders covered in candles. I have always hated space marine bike for their looks so I was not counting in those bit will I say I have the best judgement there. Belial is a huge let down. Why does he cost almost half as much as the terminator box when he could be made from those bits easily? Why are there lit candles in speeders and flyers? Have you ever tried to walk with a candle? They go out pretty easily. The best looking model is the flyer, which is a better looking storm talon which for some reason takes a huge leap in price for the privilege of having wings.

I am a Dark Angels player and I am glad I already have my models painted and converted because I would never start an army with this junk. I have plenty of bikes to cast plasma guns for and own more than 130 terminators of all types, so I'm good there too. I would have actually bought something more with this release had it been any good, but I'll stick to my collection and maybe a couple flyers thanks. I think GW needs to step up it's modeling game or at least shake things up between the fantasy designers and the 40k ones. The new DUST models are better than this and that says something right there.

    1. Well said. Stoic isn't heroic!

    2. I agree with what you said i kinda like some parts of the new daemon engines but the whole model look bleh the dark apostle looks like he got teepeed Abbadon needs a new cast so he doesnt look like a dwarf in terminator armor and the wings on the new jump units just looks unnecessary. GW needs to start listening to the people's opinons and what they say because if so i think there models would look alot better. The only thing that catches my eye is those power weapons on those knight terminators. The land speeders just look like two put together with the 2nd expanded and also all they really did with the bikes is that they took the dark vengance bikes and added plasma guns.

  8. Am I the only one who likes the new speeder thingy, must be a ginger thing I suppose

  9. I'm about 65% excited for the DA release. Not super impressed with the Belial fig (far too static of a pose) and the new speeder variant doesn't really grab me. The Ravenwing bikers are much of a muchness. Not planning on buying any of those.

Mechanically the power maul/SS terminators are a little odd (waiting to see how the supposed special rule for them plays out), but from a modeling standpoint I like both the knights and the DW command squad quite a bit and will likely pick them up to add to what came with the DV set.

The new flyer is definitely an improvement over the storm talon looks-wise, but the price increase seems unnecessarily steep. No planned purchase for me there because of that.

All told, it's not enough to make me think about doing up a full army of 'em, but there's a couple units that I'll buy to supplement the DV set to make a tidy little allied force for my guard, I suppose. My wallet breathes a sigh of relief!

  10. Am I the only one here who isn't looking at the models as a whole, yet looking at them as bitz to kit-bash with? From what I see, I'll be running my Salamanders out of this Codex, utilizing all kinds of bitz from various boxes. Mind you, I'm planning on a 30k - 40k modeling spin to them all, so whether or not I use some of these infantry kits is up in the air, but the Land Speeder, while kind of hideous in my opinion on the whole, is ripe for converting! I like the mini turret on the front!

    1. Darn it Tim, now you've got me looking at the pics from a converter's standpoint and I'm suddenly thinking about buying a couple boxes of each of these just for conversion fodder now. Curse you! The Closet of Doom hungers and must be fed new plastic lest it devour me next time I go bits diving! :D

  11. They are regurgitating the second addition rules and getting 5 year olds to design new stuff very sad. No new ideas or designs and bring out stuff that everybody converted themselves 5 year ago.
    VERY DISAPPOINTING
