Necron Wraiths round 3 (with bonus Triarch Stalker!)
After seeing OST's new wraiths I was inspired to go back and fix mine. Though I was happy with how the old ones turned out but the grass is always greener and after getting the tentacle maker from Green stuff industries, I simply had to redo them.
Though the changes are only slight, I think it's an evolution that works well. A quick note before everyone just starts looking at the pictures and not reading the text, OST and I are really feeding off each other for the necrons. Like we've said OST and I are pushing each other to have the better and better quality conversions for the Necrons. This has really been a great example of why its good to surround yourself with people that want to be the best they can; as a whole we're better than the sum of our parts.
With these wraiths I wanted to give a few different styles for the many different roles they play. I wanted one menacingly pushing forward with all the little mechanical hands like he was reaching forward. I wanted one floating still as if just phasing in from his pocket dimension, and one actually darting around. After reading the fluff, wraiths are truely terrifying. You don't see them coming; they simply materialize with a few arms inside your body turning it into pudding.
When I first made mine I left the front part of the Praetorian torso just empty because it was the underside. OST used the back of the warriors on the ghost ark to kind of finish the bottom and add the spine to the model. For mine I used the back half of a Deathmark torso. I really liked that it created a even indent area to stuff tentacles coming out of. Also, it fits the style of the Praetorian pack with the transdimensional-whatever-they're-called balls on the back.
This guy is the floater. His tentacles are just floating in all directions. I picture this guy being the one that materializes silently in the commanders quarters and proceeds to disassemble his innards while he sleeps.
Stolen from the spyders, I used the guass cannon ends as little pincer claws. I tried just cutting them in half and having three 'fingers' on each one but it gave the hand a 'right way' and 'wrong way' for it to be positioned and I really didn't like the idea of it having a right side up look. With how wild the tentacles looked I think the ambiguous two fingers was better. Maybe I put way too much thought into it...
I tried to give this guy a little flow, like he was jutting out in a particular direction. The unit needs a couple of these so that as a whole it doesn't look too static. Wraiths are so crazy in everything they can do that sometimes they just show up right in place to annihilate and sometimes they need to have a sudden burst of speed vs phasing out.
I really like how these guys have evolved from DFG's first set to where they are now. Next will be my evolution of the spiders, then maybe one day I'll start painting the army...
Here's a bonus preview of both my stalker (as demanded by OST) and my army paint scheme.
