DFG Painting Challenge: Hornblower's Storm Raven!

The Blood Angels strike again! Hey everyone, Hornblower here once more. I'm keeping Blood Angel train rolling with a Heavy Support choice, the Storm Raven.

I am really not a huge fan of the Storm Raven as the instructions tell you to assemble it. There's just something wrong with it. I think that it's just way to tall for its short length. I though long and hard on this project as far as what I could do to remedy the look of the model.

What I came up with was to remove the air ram and turret from the top of the model and just put the guns elsewhere. I also decided to model the landing gear in the "up" position as they tend to extend the height of the model when modeled in the "down" position.

I placed the twin-linked autocannons on the sides of the hull on either side of the front ramp. I think they look good there and are in a good position for forward firing. The removal of the turret limits their field of fire, but I'm not too worried about that anyway with the Storm Raven's 12 AV all around. I'll just face it toward my target and go for it. I'm sure it'll come back to bite me in the rear some day, but I'll happily give up those rare occasions for a model I'll enjoy looking at every game it's used.

Till next time!
Hornblower

  1. I may be knee deep in commissions and blue-washed Nids, but I will catch you, Hornblower!
