Grey Knight Terminator Commission by CVinton

Old School here with some photos from CVinton, one of our blog authors. While I have been slaving away to finish the free dreadnoughts won in the give-away, he has been cranking out some Eavy Metal worthy Grey Knight Terminators for a commission. This five-man squad is finished and represents only half of the commission - CV is cranking out the rest I type this and building some tables for our FLGS - soon we will have 12 tables for regular play and for the END OF DAYS TOURNEY.
.
CVinton will eventually comment on this post to tell you how he did everything and what methods he used to paint these, but in the meantime, I will oogle them beside you!

I really like the way the metallics came out on these models. It looks like he used thin layers, possibly some white mixed in with the highlights and maybe even some blue wash or ink to bring out the Blue Steel look.

I know he recently bought a micron pen (one with some kind of microscopic-smal tip) and I am sure that is what he did to acheive the script on the purity seals. They look really nice - much better than the dragged on look that happens sometimes with the brush.

Last but not least, it can be hard to achieve contrast with these models - gold just doesn't contrast and the red on the shield is just too little to pull it off - he made the perfect remedy with the red clay type basing, drawing out the reds in the model and contrasting the metal enough to please the eye.
.
The most important part is that his client was very happy with the work so far. At the end of the day, I know that is a good feeling.
.
Finally, this is a small part of the commission work we are doing right now. Dark Future Games has recently opened a commission painting service. Four of us in our local area have been doing small commissions for a while, but have decided to form a service so that we can split up and tackle bigger jobs and whole armies - each able to take on the parts and levels he is comfortable with. Soon we will be adding pages to the blog to show off our work for both painting and converting and we will also release a pricing guide. We are booked pretty heavily right now, but if you would like to get some work done, please don't hesitate to contact us.
.
Feedback as always, is welcome on the Grey Knight Termies!

  1. Really really nice and crisp job. Having gotten a box of them myself recently I am really interested on how you painted these up!

  2. I wish someone would make a chaos grey knight, regardless of fluff

  3. I saw these models a while ago and recently bumped into them again. Was there ever a "tutorial" posted up for these guys? That metallic paint-job is just spectacular.

  4. No, no tutorial. All I did for the silver was use a normal silver, like boltgun or chainmail and then mix a small amount of white in it to do high lights.

As far as the gold is concerned I paint it over black and then highlight with very thin streaks of Vallejo model air chrome. Its a super fine pigment silver that keeps thin lines from just looking glittery.

I'm not sure if I posted about it but I also did a grey knight bane blade for the same customer and was just contacted about doing a second one. I'll put it up and have some instruction with it too. Check back in about a week for it.
