13th Company Space Wolf Thunderwolves WIP # 3

Update on the Thunderwolves.  They're almost done.  I ordered some chaos warhounds to chop up for the heads and then I'll be finished up with the four.  I might end up making one or two more, but for now I think I'm set.

Ogre Kingdoms: Firebelly Fully Painted!

Old School here with some pics of my Ogre Firebelly. This model is a ton of fun to paint and to play (he is the scourge of the Skaven race locally). After a big hiccup in the fact that the head/arm/flame didn't fit together at all, I simply cut the stream of fire leading from the mouth, glued the head and arm where they belong and then just re sculpted the flam with green stuff. Once that was finished, it was time to lay some paint down. Let's take a look at the final product.

I Have Arrived

For those of you that don't know me I am SeerK.  I run a little blog called Craftworld Lansing.  I am a former GW employee and I have been playing 40K since the tail end of Rogue Trader.  As you might guess from the handle I am an avid Eldar player.  I also have Dark Eldar Themed Ork army I am putting together, which I hope to post pictures off soon as I a about to receive a nice influx of bits to do some of the major mods and conversions I have planned.

13th company Thunder Wolves WIP 2

Finished doing the GS work on the second one today.  After giving the first one the hobby shop test, I found it was a pretty boring stance.  So, I went more dynamic with the new one.

We Want Your Opinion: DFG Belongs to Our Readers!

Old School here and much like the zombie Uncle Sam in the image above, we wan to pick your brain. We have been chugging along for about four years now and have grown into a monstrous blog we never imagined (but we are happily surprised!) when this whole thing began.

With that being said, every once and a while, we would like to ask what you guys want. Well ... what would you like to see?

Warriors of Chaos Battle Standard Bearer

Happy Holidays to everyone to start with and second just bringing you some photos of a piece I finished on Thanksgiving while Vegetating. So most of you will notice that this is not a GW piece and that is correct. I purchased this model a long time ago when i first started playing fantasy and he has sat in my collection of Chaos stuff since then. I liked the simple look of the Sculpt and decided to Chaos him up a bit and use him as my BSB since he seems like the kind of Viking bad ass that would be in charge of all the Marauders in my army. So off to the bitz box and a little while later i had this massive banner complete and a Semi dead body for my champ to be toting around in the name of the dark gods.

For painting I knew I wanted to have a almost tribal barbaric feel to the banner since the Champ looks more like a Marauder than your stereotypical Chaos warrior. So what screams Chaos quite well? I would have to say a giant banner made of flesh and daubed with copious amounts of blood and it just so happens that lately I have also been experimenting with different reds and substances to mix for a more realistic blood tone. So here i am haphazardly smearing symbols runes and even nasty hand prints onto my banner. At first I did not like how sloppy it appeared but the more I added and thought about it, the more I liked the idea of a bunch of random lunatics, tribal shamans and whoever else just smearing symbols to the dark gods on this fleshy canvas! The champion himself was a pretty standard paint job with a lot of flesh and furs. So there's the quick down and dirty! Be sure to enjoy the rest of your holiday!

13th Company Thunder Wolves WIP 1

After stealing an idea that OST told me about during his 'ard boys semifinals experience, I made the first of my thunderwolves.

Magnetizing your Contemptor.

Magnetizing your contemptor dread is pretty easy and quick.  Check out the tutorial, you'll be suprised at the ease of it.

Contemplation of a Contemptor via Comprising a Compilation.

Even if you don't like the look of the model, the Contemptor is a pretty awesome model for the hobbiest-lite to have a very personalized model.   This guy is made up of about 27 parts, (Good run down of the model here) all of which are made for maximum articulation.  Since Forgeworld took forever between sending me the wrong dread and then being on back order, I satisfied my need to have this guy in my grubby little hands by surfing the net and seeing what others did.

It Came From the Forums: The Best Black Templars - Mad Matt's Barbarossa Crusade!

Old School here with a new addition of It Came From the Forums, this time focusing on one of the "Forgotten Chapters" - The Black Templars. In this case, we will be looking at the very best Black Templar army I have seen to date: Mad Matt's Barbarossa Crusade! Let's take a look at what he has come up with so far.

New Orc and Goblin HUGE Squigs - Lost in the Sauce

I didn't even catch these when I was going through the leaked photos out there. Sorry about that. They look amazing! Are those goblin sized models all over them? They must be huge! Thoughts? Want to make 40k models out of them?

Leaked Images: New Beastmen Giant Monsters = Awesome Huge Conversions!!

Old School here with some photos of the Beastmen Ghorgon, Cygor and Jabberslythe! It seems that the design studio has decided to keep up the great work it has been doing with its big Fantasy monsters and Ogre lines by creating the missing giant beasts from the Beastmen Army Book. Make no mistake, this is good for the Beastmen, but great for hobbyists who flock to the dark side from both the 40k and the fantasy lines. Let's check out all the pics!

Tournament Over load in lower michigan!

DFG has received a few announcements for tournaments that we really want to pass on to everyone.  I can't say I've ever had a time where I could go to a legitimate tournament every Saturday in a month until now.  It seems like December is going to break that record for lower Michigan.  If it weren't for the holidays, we'd easily see it happening.

Wolfson Preps His Eldar For Adepticon: Painted Farseer, Fire Dragons and Rangers

So its official I will be joining the rest of the DFG crew at the wonderful event known as Adepticon. This will be my first Adepticon and i am stoked to finally get out to see the rest of the DFG crew. I will be bringing along my Eldar and a Fantasy army to throw down with. The next few months will be full of painting and modeling to ensure that everything is good to go. I am looking at sending the two armies back with OST when he visits in January so i don't have to take them on the plane. This leaves me with a small amount of time to finish both these projects so look for frequent updates as more models are finished from both Armies.

I really enjoyed painting these Fire Dragons and spent a considerable amount of time staring at Google Images "Fire" to try an understand how to blend reds oranges and yellows for the armor.

Primer: My Brand of Choice and Rules of the Road!

Old School here with a post on primer. I know primer is part of the hobbyist "Holy Trinity" of Glue, Primer and Varnish - those things for which each hobbyist has their own brand they swear by, no matter how well/terrible it works for others - but I am here to talk about my personal favorite primer; Valspar. Why this and not one of the Hobby brands? Good question, let's talk about it.

CVinton: Stuff for Sale!

I've never really tried to sell anything from the blog, but I'm trying to clear out some stuff that doesn't see much play from me.  Mostly IG, but I have a couple space marine things too.  I'll give it about a week up here before I put it on eBay, where I imagine it'll be more expensive. :)

Ogre Kingdoms Slaughter Master Painted and Ready for War!

Old School here with more from the Ogre Kingdoms army I am working on for the upcoming Warhammer Fantasy League I have joined. The new addition to the force is the near "Auto-Include" Lord choice, the Slaughter Master (or butcher for those of you just taking a dispel scroll caddy! This model reminded me of the Iron Blaster in many ways with all the various textures and aspects, but it was much more fun to work on. Let's take a look at some photos I took and go over the basic paint job.

DFG Cribs: CVinton's Workshop

DFG Cribs: CVinton's meth lab.

To start off with I uploaded this picture xlg so that you guys can really see everything and feel free to ask about anything that I don't mention in this post.  There is a lot to cover and I'll try not to ramble, but just as a warning, this is a long post, filled with a ridiculous amount of pictures.

OST asked me to do a 'cribs' review of my work space and  I'm happy to oblige.  Every time he comes over he'll see something weird and ask what I have that for.  It usually gets a response of 'omg, are you serious?!' We think a little tour of work stations can inadvertently inspire and educate people of tips and tricks others take for granted.  Hopefully we can be successful in that mission statement.  Here we go.

Warhammer Escalation League: Thoughts on Fantasy, Small Games and making 500pt Ogres work!

Alright, so we gave a pretty large Fantasy league developing here in Lansing and with 17 people on the board, we even have some good representation from most of the races.

Getting involved with Fantasy in my local scene in really exciting, but that first game has been a knot in my stomach for some time. After all, what the Hell can Ogres do with just 500pts. (and I finally fixed this post, sorry for those of you who saw the crap my phone spewed last night!)

Happy Birthday Marines! Semper Fidelis!

Every year since I started this blog, I have ensured that I made time to observe the Marine Corps birthday. This is not simply due to the fact that I am a Marine. I do it because I know that no matter where you go, no matter where you look, you will find a United States Marine is already there or has already been there before you! I know there are plenty of us in this small community as well and I am proud to recognize you on this day.

Please take time to watch the video from our new Commandant, General Amos. It pays remembrance to Pearl Harbor, September 11th and celebrates the deeds of our newest Medal of Honor Recipient, Dakota Meyer. Sound off and be recognized, brothers, young and old! Happy Birthday Marines!

It Came From the Forums: Swamp Necrons and Renegade Kroot from Marco Schulze!

Old School here with another installment of It Came From the Forums. This time we will be looking at the work of an artist who has been featured in another It Came From the Forums post; Marco Schulze. Previously, we looked at his Tyranids, but I have found another set of incredible models in another forum, so let's take a look!

An Interview With a Black Library Author

Old School here just to help get the word out about a great post over at fellow Michigan gaming blog, Fresh Coast 40k. Muggins, the founder of FC40k has been frustrated for some time trying to get his hands on some Tyranid fiction from the Black Library and once he found some, he took action:

Belial Conversion, the Beginning!

Old School here on my way to End of Days to set up tables. I just wanted to quickly share my Belial conversion as it stands at the moment.

So far he has Luft Huron's body, the Raven Guard special character's head from forge world and a couple bits off the veterans sprues for Dark Angels.

What you can't see in this photo is that I have set magnets in his arms so I can give him any of the optional wargear. I should finish this conversion in a day or two and then I will show him off before I take him to the painting table.

Let me know what you think.

Forge World Bust Out Old School Rhinos

Pre-Heresy buffs, jump over to Forge World and check out their latest release, the Old School Rhino kit (not the real name, but you get the idea!)

I am gearing up for End of Days tonight and I think it is going to be fun for everyone involved. Speaking of End of Days, for those of you participating, don't forget the new cron rules are in effect!!

Initial Necron Thoughts ...

Well, I stopped by the FLGS and grabbed the Necron codex, poorer over it for about an hour with SeerK among others and have to say that the overall impression I got from it was pretty impressive on several levels ...

Titan Forge Minis: 40k and Fantasy Alternatives for Grey Knights, Ogres, Chaos and More

Old School here with another GW alternative post. This time, I am looking at a company called Titan Forge Miniatures. This company currently has a line that includes Death Cult Assasin alternative models, some great tabbards and shoulder pads, several variations of Chaos Lord, a growing gang of Pirate Ogres and some Empire/ Bret style models like the Griffon above! Here are some photos and thoughts and of course, a link will follow at the bottom of the post, enjoy!

Death Wing Veteran Sergeant and Good Pics of the Command Squad

Old School here with some pics of my latest member of the Inner Circle; my Death Wing Command Squad Veteran Sergeant. For right now, this guy is filling in for Belial while I build the 1st Company Grand Master. Like any good senior enlisted man, he is ready to fill the boots of his officer at any time! I also included in this post, some pics of the Death Wing I have painted so far, but this time ... I used a good camera! Enjoy the pics.
