Coming Soon From Paulson Games: Mech Auto Cannons, Missile Launchers Galore and More!
Paulson Games is at it again! The same great company that brought us Alien Bio Swords, Wolf Cav models and much more is scheduled to debut some new bits any day! First up is the Mech Auto Cannon with Ammo feed belts. While these would go great on any miniature, I think I hear some Grey Knights or even some Tau calling for these bad boys! Next up is a medium and large missile launcher

Where Do the 5th Edition Haters Come From - Deep Thoughts
Old School here and tonight I want to share some thoughts on where some of the nasty hatred comes from that you can find out there when you bring up certain armies, 5th Edition or 40k in general. Personally, I think 5th provides a very solid game and I truly hope GW uses 6th to build off of what 5th has created for them rather than tear the system down just to rebuild it. For some players though, 5th has cramped their style and I can kind of see where they are coming from ...
Welcome to the Blogosphere, Battle Barn!
Old School here to help break the Battle Barn into the Blogosphere. Having hosted tournaments attended by members of the Battle Barn crew and with them being a fellow Michigan Wargaming Blog, I figured I would help them out by throwing up this shout out and inviting my readership to check their new blog out.

A look into Game Vault, Fredericksburg, VA: A Great FLGS!
Old School here with a quick review of another DC/VA area Game Store during my trip. This time, I am looking at Game Vault in Fredericksburg, VA. First off, I would like to give this store kudos for having a great Web site. The hours and current information are posted on the front page, which was helpful because the hurricane caused the store to be closed on Saturday. Since that info was posted on the Web site in a timely manner, it saved me a trip (yeah, I'm the guy who goes to FLGSs during natural disasters).
Death Wing Freehand Banner WIP and Finding Help for YOUR Hobby Goals
Just a quick one for tonight folks. I spent all day painting in the Game Vault in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I wanted to get out of the barracks, put some paint down and see what this store was all about. I will write a review about the store for tomorrow, but for now, I figured I would throw a quick WIP of what I am working on right now; my Deathwing command squad banner bearer.
Honestly, I loved the banner bit when I finally put it on, but then I got scared when I thought about the folds and the fact that I was going to have to paint on that surface, but I found something in the blogosphere to help me out with that ...

Horde Armies, is it all worth it?
It comes down to time. I am a dad with three kids. I am also in the military. Those both are full time jobs. On top of the time it takes to paint them and assemble them, they also take a long time to set up and to push around the board. In a tourney, this can be horrible and in casual play, a massive time sink.
I don't think I will sell them, but its just that the deathwing has made me see how inconvenient a horde army is. Does anybody else out there have an army they feel the same way about? Care to share your trials and tribulations or even a possible solution?

A Look into the New Bowie Battle Bunker (with pics of painted models)
Old School here and in case you aren't from the East Coast, we are having a little bit of a hurricane here (Earthquake, typhoon, pretty much a 90's WWF re-union), so gaming may or may not happen this weekend, but since I am stuck in doors for now, I would like to post some thoughts on the Bowie Battle Bunker and throw some pics of of the location and the models in the display case. With that being said, this article will include a store review followed by pics of nice looking models. Enjoy.

My First Warhammer Fantasy Experience: WHFB through a 40k Player's eyes!
Once upon a time, thought people who played 40k and people who played Fantasy were the same folks. Over time, I learned that there can be a divide in some gaming circles, most often driven by a lack of knowledge about the "other" game. For me and the areas I have played in, Fantasy has always been that other game.
Now, I am doing a bit of traveling and here in the Maryland/ Virginia area, there is quite a bit of Fantasy gaming available. Never one to back down from a challenge, I accepted an offer from Wolfson to learn the ways of the Old World. Here is a little review based on my first game of WHFB. I am keeping it simple and exploring the phases of a turn through the eyes of a 40k player.

Space Marine Game Demo Review
So i am sure that anyone even slightly interested in 40k has always wondered what it would be like to be a 10 foot tall superhuman bad ass known as a Space Marine. Well your chance to find out is almost here as the release date for THQ and Relics "Space Marine" looms. In the mean time there is a free demo available for download.
The demo lets you play two levels as the Ultramarine Captain Titus investigating a world being over run by Orks. You will slaughter your way through Slugga boys, Shoota boys, Nobz, Gretchin, and even some bomb squigs on your way to victory while being supported by two other Ultramarines that are AI controlled. The Demo does not give away much as far as the story is concerned and i would not expect it to. I was more concerned with how the game plays and feels since they are trying to represent one of the most iconic figures in all of 40k, The Space Marine.
The game itself plays like your standard third person hack and slash adventure mixed with a few things from shooters. Think Gears of war mixed with ...

Eternity of War: Star Wars themed Marines in Bowie Battle Bunker
While this wasn't their big 40k night, it was the coolest army on the table tonight. More posts are coming, but for now I must sleep!

Death Wing Development: Shields Vs Storm Bolters!
As I progress through Death Wing list development (the last game of 'Ard boyz was my 7th game with them in 5th ed), I have the feeling I might need some stormbolters. I love my Hammers and Shields, but I am starting to feel the need for fire support beyond missiles and lascannons. Perhaps some of you could chime in with constructive advice. Here is the list I am working with at 1850:

Gencon Round up Part 2; Dust Warfare
Dust Tactics is the board game version of Dust warfare. Or should I say, Dust Warfare is the table top version of Dust Tactics. Since I hadn't played either I knew to get a proper view on the product I had to learn the board game. As far as Fantasy Flight games are concerned, Dust Tactics is the simplest board game they have. For those that have played Arkham Horror, we're talking shoots and ladders compared to axis and allies.

CVinton's road to 'Ard Boyz semi-finals.
This year I wasn't really sure I was going to make it to 'ard boyz but I'm pretty happy things worked out in my favor. I had a family reunion to go to the same day but as luck would have it dates moved around and I was able to go to our FLGS' tournament.

Gamers of the Maryland/ Virginia Area, DFG Cometh!
Old School here to say that I will be coming out to the Quantico Virginia area for the next couple months and I would like to get some games in and maybe do some painting with some folks out that way. Our own Wolfson plays at the re-opened Bunker in Maryland and I know that the Gamevault is about 30 minutes south of Quantico, but I really want to get out and meet some folks, so if you know of a store around that area, let me know the name, drop a link and let me know what nights they normally play. I plan to go on tour!
Choosing the right model for Belial, Help Me Choose!
Old School here and as I build my Death Wing to completion, I look upon Belial and what model to convert to represent him on the table. There are several great ones to choose from, so let's take a look:

GenCon round up part 1
Finally, after I'm all settled in I'm ready to give a little round up of what went on at gencon. My first post will just hit the 40k stuff.
At our store, the 40k RPG by Fantasy Flight is picking up steam and roping new role players and veteran role players alike. I haven't been able to get into it because of my limited hobby time (usually only one night a week so I'd have to go RP or play table top) but from the sounds of things it seems like a decent system. All of my knowledge for this post comes from talking with the designers and an RPG player based in my past experiences in D&D.
Thunder Wolves in Upcoming Ogres Release?
I have seen these photos making their rounds around the Internet for the last week or so and I am surprised nobody has seen what I have seen: Thunderwolves. So Ogres are a little taller than a terminator. so the beast is huge ...

Death Wing: First Model Painted, Links to My Inspirations!
Old School here with some pics of the first model in my Death Wing Redux. I wanted to start with a Cyclone Missile Launcher Terminator just to ensure I find a scheme I like for that weapon.
One of the the goals I had when I built these models was to add a little something to my models to set them aside from other Death Wing armies out there. Since I wanted to make a solid start and run at 1850 at least without drawing resources out side my bits box, I limited myself to materials on hand - hence the press mold shield icon. Looking at the model and the pics now, I think the press mold was a good idea and I really like how it turned out.
Now let's look at some more pics of this model, but first: a photo of my old death wing scheme:

It Came From The Forums Alaric Cantonain's Ork /Tyranid Zybrids!! You Gotta See It To Believe It!

Dealing with the Summer 40k Funk
Old School here to talk about the Summer 40k funk. It seems like every Summer, the sun comes back out and people (rightfully) get outside and enjoy some time in the sun and the hobby goes through a little Summer funk. It is obvious as I look around the blogosphere that there is a bit of it everywhere (more is some cases than others) and there is nothing wrong with it! The question is "What do you do to get the juices flowing again?"

Death Wing Company Banner Bearer Conversion!
Old School here, continuing the Death Wing coverage with my Company Banner Bearer. I almost went with the standard Space Marine Command Squad box banner, but then I wanted the banner to look like something older, tattered and well, more portable, so I went with a little something from the bits box ...

Raven Wing Attack Bikes with a twist ...
As I have stated in previous posts, I have started this Death Wing army from my bitz box, using a minimal amount of outside resources to get it off the ground. With that being said, the Attack Bike is not something I have just laying around. Bikes, Multi-meltas and Tomb Kings Chariots, however, I have in the metric ton! Lets take a look at what I did.

Terminator Tutorial: Alternative Cyclone Missile Launcher
Old School here and after months of going back and forth with myself, I have decided to restart my Death Wing army. I have had a lot of fun putting it together recently and the first joy I wanted to share with you was my alternative Cyclone Missile Launcher and installing it.

Reporting in from Gencon!
I know that here at darkfuture we are primarily focused on warhammer 40k, however for the next week I will be updating on the happenings at gencon.
As a long time role player, I love gencon. My friends and I have been going for the past five years and I've always enjoyed being able to let loose, dive into and roll around in my fat stinky gamer side. The hard part for me is that gencon has nothing to do with 40k, and I mean nothing! Last year I dragged my army around the convention center and through the thousands of nerds only to find out the small tournament was cancelled. That sealed the deal for me to never again bring my army here.
With that said I do however still keep my eye out for 40k related material and other interesting games that use gencon as their launch. I watched malifaux grow from a game demo'd to me by their insainely high energy creator into a game that is supported by other companies such as battle foam, I saw flames of war peddled like cheap rocks of crack, and lasly, I've seen fantasy flight games go from two booth spaces to now taking up a good chunk of the exhibit hall. And that's where my attention is this year.
Fantasy flight put out Space Hulk the board game and Death Watch RPG along with tons of other great games. And this year they're releasing what I think is a campaign setting for the rpg called The Black Crusade. It sounds like its either a campaign setting or at least a way to play a chaos (or like Ravenloft for you D&D players) campaign. Beyond that, they're also releasing a new Dust Warfare game based on Dust Tactics and a game similar to Space Hulk based on Gears of War.
Not many of you might know this but I love me some board games and fantasy flight has the midis touch when it comes to board games. Outside of Arkham Horror being the most taxing experience of my life (which if you accept that cthulu will eventually eat your mind) FF hasn't missed the mark yet and to be honest they didn't really miss the mark there, I'm just talking relatively. The warhammer fantasy based game was awesome and id love to see an adapted 40k version. I will for sure be reporting back on these games after I get some demos with them.
Lastly they're doing a quick seminar about the RPG discribing what's in it and where they intend on going with the future. Of course in the discription of the event they put in awesome teaser lines like "...and see what is in store for the future of the 40k universe!" So we'll see how much that teaser pans out.
So, its off to bed for the typical 2 hours per night of sleep for duration of the week. Its like nerd boot camp!
