Old School here with another It Came From the Forums post, this time, we will look at Mastiff's Ravenborn - A chapter, or should I say, Clan of Space Marines with a Celtic theme that pulls at my Scottish roots (ok, they are a little muddy, but they are there!). Tons of photos here, but let's start with the one that really grabbed me when I saw it the first time; the Wolf Priest here is awesome. The raven themed helmet, the tartan, the glowing weapon and the cut out from the space wolf shield are all excellent touches! Such a great model and no better way to kick off this post ...

Arachnarok Tervigon Conversion Painted; Tervigon Alpha!
Old School here with the painted Arachnarok Tervigon I converted while the Arachnarok was still a Black Box item (check out the original posts here). After the exitement of building it wore off I realized I wanted to change my color scheme and my approach to painting the Nids (there are so many, I wanted to find a time-efficient way to paint them consistently, so a little less detail than I put into my usual work, but enough to be effective) - so it took me a while, but she is done. I originally called her Project Drider, but since this is an expensive model to reproduce and I will likely use it for my HQ Tervigon, I have changed its name to Tervigon Alpha. With all that said, here she is with plenty of photos ...

Space Hulk Genestealers Join The Hive!
Old School reporting in with another entry for the painting challenge; my Space Hulk genestealers! These fellows have been in my collection and even helped my compete at Adepticon's Special Operation Killzone, but they never really were finished, so I hit them with the brush and made them a part of the weekend painting projects. Here are the results:

Cranking out Foam Terrain for the next Tournament!
Old School here with some initial shots of the terrain we are building for the DFG half of our budding tournament organization with Mi40k. The terrain in the photo represents roughly a third of the terrain we are cranking out in time for the June 4th tournament at Game Links in Fowlerville, MI and is made of delicious insulating foam.

Warhammer Fantasy Power Rankings
Rhellion here with my thoughts on the current field of Warhammer Fantasy armies.
A few new books have come out, and I have been a part of Adepticon, Ard Boyz, other local tournaments, and reading forums like a mad man. With all of the "data" I have been looking at, I have generated my own opinion on the current power rankings in the Warhammer World. I did not include Chaos Dwarfs or Dogs of War, as they do not have Games Workshop army books. Hopefully this list will be helpful for DFG readers interested in starting Fantasy, or maybe starting a new army. Here we go, starting from the top. Just pretend this is ESPN for Warhammer!

Old School's Deff Race Batrep; Taking Nids to Second Place
Old School here with my Batrep from Deff Race; an event put together by our own CVinton, which took place at Evolution Games. The event was a standard 40k event with a twist; you had 2250 to build an army with the standard FOC and the addition of one spearhead formation. Getting to the nitty gritty, here is my Nid list:

Wait… Steve… no Leman Russ? What’s wrong?

That is an exact question asked to me when I revealed my new list to a few people a couple weeks ago at Evolution games. I understand why as well, as I have for the longest time been a big proponent of the Leman Russ tanks and all the glorious damage they bring. I have won more than a fair share, or taken second, in enough tournaments to have proven my point of their power and durability if properly played and supported with the rest of your army (once again I preach balance in a list and how that makes entire codices better if used). However that does not mean I do not like to vary up my lists every once in a while and as such with the recent purchase of 3 Vendettas/Valkyries I decided it was time to take a look at some other ideas, and I built the following list with a little extra input from The Judge and Samsquanch Monster.
Quick and Easy Barbed Wire Tutorial
Hey, I was working on some terrain and realized I hadn't shared a quick tip that I picked up a while ago about making awesome looking barbed wire. Check it out!
(Also, don't burn your house down; and if you do, its not my problem.)

5/14/11 Spearhead tournament official missions!

Here we are, after blogger has been down most of the afternoon I'm finally able to put up the final missions for the Spearhead tournament coming up tomorrow!
Just as a reminder, for tomorrow please bring 4 copies of your list, all your gaming accessories (dice, blast markers, tape, ect.) $10 and an awesome attitude! Remember like all of our tournaments it is WYSIWYG!! Also, I've been hearing people say that painting is required for this tournament, it is not. Again, Painting is not required!! People who do have their models painted to a previously outlined standard will be eligible for an additional 2 points...out of 102 possible from Battle Points.

Dark Eldar Flyer!! Void Raven or Razorwing sneek peek pic!
Is it a Voidraven or a Razorwing? I don't know, but it looks sweet - in fact, it is a step up from pretty much any other GW vehicle I can think of! I have nothing substancial on this really but the picture, which I imagine is from the Summer of Flyers. I think the paintjob and the official GW buildings we have seen a hundred times is key to knowing this pic is real. Let the speculation begin!
New Dark Eldar up for Pre-Order: Talos/cronos, Venom, Scourges, Battleforce!
Old School here to get the word out that the Venom, Cronos/Talos, Scourges and new DE battleforce are all up for pre-order at GW. Let's take a look at the models and the sprues.

Michigan Gamers - An Eternity of War awaits!
For those of you from outside the glove-shaped state of Michigan, we have an enormous gaming scene here and while there are several Bloggers from around the state, there isn't a whole lot going on to help get that scene, it's players and the stores where the gaming happens out into the larger scene. Dark Future Games would like to change that by starting a feature called Eternity of War.

Iron Warriors Rhino - The Rust Bucket - DFG Painting Challenge!
Old School is back in the ring with the painting challenge! I am here to unveil the Rust Bucket, an Iron Warriors Rhino that looks like it needs some CLP and a wire brush! There are plenty of pics, so let's dive right in ...
40k painting mathematics: How many termagants equals one pot of GW wash?
The answer is 52. One pot of Asurmen Blue and I washed the skin on these gribblies. If you are wondering where I have been on the painting challenge, doing batch assembly style painting on stuff like this lends itself a slow build up, but I should be kicking out more Iron Warriors soon to get myself over the finished model slump. Taking on a big Nid commission, while painting a Nid army doesn't help either, lol ... oh, and I have a huge Stylish Blogger post I need to get on top of.
For now though, I say good night and look forward to some good postage over the next couple of days, thanks for reading!

More possible alternate Grey Knights from Hi-Tech Miniatures
Hi Tech Studios has gone from nearly non-existant on the radar to a beacon in a matter of a few week and their Demon Slayers line is really the drive behind the sudden interest. Let's face it, there are a lot of companies out the who "don't" make models for GW systems and these are certainly "not" Grey Knight alternatives, but looking at the Iron Chancellor above, I think it is safe to say that this guy is begging to be in your Grey Knights army anywhere you would have him. This model would make a great Grand Master or even a really awesome Paladin - at least if cutting off giant daemon heads is any measure of might. If this model strikes you, then take a look at a few of their other models that might fit the bill for some unique Grey Knight models ...

Batrep: Tyranids vs Imperial Fists, the Judge gets Judged!
Some time ago, the Judge and I were discussing his recent decision to pick up Nids and we realized that in nearly two years of knowing one another, we had only played each other in doubles matches, never one on one. Well, with those few doubles games usually devolving into laughter and smack talk, I knew we would at least have fun, so we booked the match and jokingly called it "The Day of Judgement"
After hours of text message talk of beating one another, we finally set the table ... and my list was the following:

Some Commission Genestealers by OST
Old School here to show off a few pics of some commission work I am doing for a friend's Tyranid army. The models are painted for the tabletop and to fit a dark theme utilizing the colors found in Dark Horse's Alien comics. Let's take a look.
Making the Dakkafex Work for You
Old School here to talk about the Dakkafex and to show off my childish Photoshop skills ... and now that we have had a chuckle, let's begin ...
... the dakkafex is simply a Carnifex armed with two sets of Twin Linked devourers with Brainleech Worms. The set-up is nothing new, but something that I rarely see locally, so I wanted to discuss the pros/cons and felxibility of the Dakkafex as a unit.
One of the reasons the Dakkafex is rare is that the heavy support slot is occupied by choices like the Trygon (far superior in CC than the carnifex of any build) and the Tyrannofex (far better at ranged anti-tank than the Carnifex in any build). Each of these units is better in their own specialty and on the surface each is more durable. What the Carnifex does offer is a unit in-between the two that can add some synergy to certain army builds.

Spearhead for dummies.

I've been getting a fair amount of questions about the spearhead expansion related to the basic rules of spearhead. As such I'm writing this post so that we can avoid when the tournament happens people giving me invalid lists and me handing it back saying, "Sorry, you'll have to make some changes." I would feel really bad that this confusion happen because I amended the format and that got lost in translation. So please, read this carefully if you're planning on coming to the tournament on May 14th.
