Death Guard Possessed Vindicator! Vomica Painted and Ready to Go!

Old School here with my next entry for the DFG Painting League; my Nurgle Vindicator! This vindicator was something I converted two years ago and while it has a couple little modeling flaws, it has always been close to my heart. Let's take a look at a few photos of this model ...

Hey, if you guys are anything like me, you know your 40k budget isn't bottomless and if you're out of control on it, the wife will turn the lights out...on everything.......everything....So how do I not get the lights turned out and still have more than a barebones 1850 list? Magnets!

The WarStore; a positive transaction review.

The warstore comes through again.

For those out there shopping online there has always been one place that I've heard nothing but good things about and here's another; The Warstore

I was shopping around on ebay and looking at land speeders and found the warstore seeling them for 17$ each. Of course the deep discount got me and I had to get them. However, I saw that it was the warstore selling them and I knew that they were a bits store more than a whole model store so before I committed I needed to know if this was the entire model or just part of the box.

Where to go to find the Old GW Paints! Tentacle Pink, I missed you!

One of the troubles frequently encountered by older players is that the GW paints are not the same as they used to be. I have seen many a player come back to the game with a painted army and after picking up the new codex, decided to add a unit or two. The only problem is that when they go to paint it, they may be missing some of the colors that made up the core of their army's paint scheme. Be it Chestnut Ink, Deadly Nightshade, Tentacle Pink or any other discontinued color, rest assured that there is a way to get those colors without paying an arm and a leg for them ...

Wargaming on a Budget: Cheap, Quality Army Case Video!

Old School here with a quick video about a Cheap and Sturdy Case I use for my army and for Hobby Time on the road. I would like to say that Youtube has been cursed it seems as it keeps shaving the first 10 seconds of the video off, but anyway, let's take a look at my Sham Wow audition!

Our First DFG Painting Challenge Entry! Wolfson's Howling Banshees!

Old School here to announce that our DFG Painting Challenge is picking up steam! Our very first submission from outside the CVinton/OST rivalry is in and it is from the very player who brought me into the 40k universe to stay: We call him the Stig! ... Wait, that's Top Gear, We call him Wolfson! Let's take a look at his Howling Banshees, but first a word from Wolfson:

Dark Eldar Voidraven Bomber Conversion from MI40k: A Blog of Note!

Old School here to talk about an incredible Voidraven Bomber conversion that Xerohack from MI40k posted on their site (MI40k, duh) about two weeks ago. The conversion caught my eye immediately and all of the DFG crew really were exited to see it. I know MI40k tends to operate on a more local level, but I just can't help myself, I wanted to show it off for those of you who haven't seen it and also, give you an opportunity to check out MI40k for yourself ...

Imperium and Eldar Triumphant - Bound in Blood Victory Report

Well, as Old School mentioned below, SeerK and I managed to team up today for a resounding victory in the Bound in Blood Tourney.  Josh has been taking a beating when we've faced off against each other recently (my Manticore rockets just got a shipment of Raider-seeking warheads!), so he was looking forward to being on my side of the table, and I was looking forward to having something nearby that could fight in close combat!

Battle Two, MI40k's Team Twilight!

We fought a great battle on the second mission against R3con and Tau4eva from MI40k, they rolled out a meched BA force paired with Thunderwolves/ razorbacks. This fight was intently close and was a ton of fun, we traded kill points the whole game and though we lost the kp mission by 21-19, we won due to battlepoints by holding table quarters. Great fun and great people to fight!

DFG Painting Challenge; The guantlet has been thrown down! Salamanders Predator Pics!

OST and I have been talking about, and are now officially in a personal painting challenge with each other. Our challenge is pretty simple, complete one kill point to a high standard every 2 weeks. There is nothing on the line for either of us, but since about 40% of our relationship revolves around being competitive with each other there's buckets of Scottish Pride on the table.

Despite this being a personal challenge, we're inviting all of the DFG readers to participate in this new section of the DFG blog. If you would like to be part of this, we will post your pictures and any comments you might have to add to them in a weekly post. Just email them to us. This of course is dependent on participation so if the invitation isn't picked up by anyone then we'll just post whenever we get the stray person to send a picture.

OST and I added the "to a high quality" for ourselves. If you did want to keep pace with the challenge, feel free to send us what you're doing. The spirit of this and any painting challenge is to just get people to start putting brushes to models.

Now, with all that said, OST started off with his DREADCLAW last week and here is my answer; the first of three Salamander Predators.

New Model news - not just for Blood Angels

Lost in the storm of comments about the Blood Angels Dreadnaught and the Storm Raven, Forgeworld came out with an announcement today about their next set of models - 2 of which are already up for order.  The Eldar get a set of new toys, the Warp Hunter tank destroyer, and the Shadow Spectre aspect warriors.  These are set to be published in Imperial Armour Volume 11: "The Doom of Mymeara", but are available for pre-order now, and actually going out next week.

Opening the Blackbox Video: Stormraven and Blood Angels Dreadnought

Old School here with a video of a Blackbox containing the Storm Raven and Blood Angels Dreadnought being opened by GirlPainting of Youtube and Warmonger Gameday. Check it out by clicking the read more link  ...

Blood Angels Pre-Order + Pics of complete models and unblurred Sprues!

Old School here with a VERY pic-heavy Blood Angels Post. First off, the Storm Raven, Blood Angels Dreadnought and the Blood Angels Battle Force are up for Pre-Order at GW, check it out, second, courtesy of Anything But Ones, we also have pics of the complete models and we are going to compare those to photos from GW and also take a look at the Sprues. There are tons of photos to look at and I would love to hear your thoughts (authors who can snowmobile, feel free) ...

CVinton here about the box set,

And this is a cool surprise for you BA players; a box set! I hadn't heard anything about this rumor. The upped the price but included a pretty decent amount of stuff. The total retail of the contents are 133.00 so your pretty much getting a Death Company or a rhino or a tac squad for free. I'm sort of "meh" about the contents, mainly the tac squad, but its fine. In the end it just means you'll start seeing Death Company bits on ebay for cheaper finally.

Complete Storm Raven and Furioso Pics! Feb 22 Release announced!

Painted Dreadclaw Drop Pod Conversion! Iron Warriors!

Iron within, rust without, that's what I always say! Old School here with a finished look at the dreadclaw conversion I built in October and painted yesterday. This is the first step down the path of getting my armies painted as mentioned in my last post. This dreadclaw took on a few last minute changes before hitting the paint bench so let's look at a few more pics and explore the changes and the paint ...

Finishing What I Started ... Wrestling the Hobby ADD

Old School here and like many of you, I have serious Hobby ADD. In just the two years I have operated this blog, I have sold off a Tau army, started, briefly played and sold a Deathwing army, developed my Chaos, ran an extensive tactics and unit reviews series on them and collected and built a Tyranid force. This is all pretty average I'd say for the folks I roll with, but one shameful fact stings me ...

Artist of the Week Returns! Bohun's Masterpeices! SW, CSM and Eldar!

Old School here, bringing back one of our original features: Artist of The Week. The Artist of the Week is something we give out to those incredible artists who make our jaws hit the floor with their work. This will likely either merge in the future with It Came from the Forums, or the two will run opposite to each other, but enough of the logistics, let's take a look at this week's artist: Bohun! Bohun is somebody who doesn't paint models, he creates masterpeices - the kind that make you wonder how the hell he did it, just like this Space Wolves Dreadnought above. The lines and weathering on the armor son't even seem possible to me and the soft highlights add an element of realism that I have never seen in a miniature before ... and the banner ... I don't even know where to begin with that.

Let's take a look at at more of his work and while we do that, if you have trouble seeing the images, just click on them or follow the link to his gallery at the bottom of the post ...

FAQ Updates! Black Templars & Dark Angels Updated! Start Dusting!

Dust off your Templars and Dark Angels folks, the guys at GW have reached down and grabbed their dice bags and FINALLY dropped a series of FAQs to bring them closer in line to the 5th edition codices! So, let's take a look at a few of the changes. There will be real cyclone missile launchers, real apothecaries and yes Virginia, there is a 3++ Storm Shield ...

Pre and Post Shading a Rhino: Airbrush Video

Old School here and recently, in my attempts to keep up with the Joneses (or the CVintons, lol), I purchased an Iwata HP-CS and began scouring the internet for GOOD advice. Starting with what tips CVinton gave me, I looked for techniques that I could practice and maybe even have success with at my admittedly novice level of airbrushing experience. I came across the video below during my research and have to admit that it offers a very solid guide to pre and post shading a rhino ...

Product Review: Elmer's multi-purpose spray adhesive

I was walking around Micheal's the other day browsing for inspiration when I saw this stuff. I've used spray adhesives in the past for applying flock to terrain and game tables and have never be impressed and always go with the standard woodglue mixed with water and paint rollered out. Times have changed.

Happy Birthday to Us, DFG hits the Terrible Two's!

That is right, Dark Future Games officially turns Two today. When we started, Bell of Lost Souls was a blogspot address and From the Warp had less than 200 folks on their rolls. I used to read BoLS all the time and really liked how different it was from the forums (this was a while ago, I think they were posting new photos of the pre-heresy DG there). I started looking at other blogs in their roll and said, "I think I can do this" and proceeded to flop around for about 6 months before I got my act together and started blogging regularly. I would like to take the chance to thank a ton of people (this is going to be pretty long and likely not relevant to everyone) ...

Quick light-weight table design

I was asked by a friend to design a quick and easy table and just thought I'd share the design with the community. It is planned to be in a game store, however after building some for Evolution, I realized that despite my gut reaction, the tables don't need to be as heavy duty as I initially thought. (so long as people don't stand on them...)

The design costs a total of 47.52$ without any flock on the surface. I'd budget an extra 10-30$ depending on what you use and how well you want it done. Also, the cost of the table can fluctuate about +/- 10$ depending on how much sturdier you would want to make it by adding thicker or thinner boards. The design I priced uses 1x6x6 (or 1x6x8) boards to make the box for the board to fit into. I feel like this is necessary for a game store just to strengthen the legs by giving them more material to attach to. To make this table work for a game store I would just make sure that the table legs are securely fastened with four screws on each side in a staggered square pattern.

It Came From........Poland? Sammy's Unique Space Wolves!

(Posted by Samsquanch Monster) - Well, I've never done this before. I'm posting some of my models that I just got done today. I'm pretty happy with the results. The models from sciborminiatures.com are fantastic and very easy to work with. Mix with the standard GW Kit and you get a very amazing mini. Let me know what you guys think ...

It Came From the Forums: Mjolnir's Pre-Heresy Space Wolves!

Old School here with another edition of It Came From the Forums. This one highlights the work of Mjolnir and his heavily converted Pre-Heresy Space Wolves, including Leman Russ himself pictured above. Enough talk, let's take a look at The Rout ...

Hmmm that guy never gets the credit.

So lately with my list building I have been trying to figure out what parts of my list to refine and narrow it down, and perhaps struggle with what to experiment with. As I did that I realized something important about my list, something I really overlooked until a recent discussion with a couple locals.

Mediums and Other Paint Additives

Well...not that kind of medium, but close. If you want to stick to the analogy you can imagine that medium is what bridges the gap between your GW paint pot and your model.

In this post I'm going to go over some of the different types of mediums and additives that you can find by the liquitex company. Any of these can be purchased at a craft store such as Hobby Lobby or Micheal's. If you're unable to get to one of those then you can order online from one of the largest arts suppliers, Dick Blick.

The Best Thunderwolf Counts-as/ GW Alternative Yet?

They are big, furry, saddled and have some augmetic limbs ... and best of all, they don't have helmets. I know that some of you may have seen these already, but for those of you who haven't, come take a look at the Thunderwolf alternative models that finally might take Mr. Dandy's Battle Wolves off the top of my list ...

Getting Ready for Doubles Part 2: Paper meets reality: Playtesting

What's in a Name? What's Behind the Blog Handle?

Old School here ... ever wonder where some folks get their blog handles? So do I. There are obvious ones, like Awesome Paintjob's Les Bursley (his name) and then there are ones that are just strange, like 3++'s Abuse Puppy (hopefully, not his real name).

With that said, the origins of Old School Terminator lay in a few purchases I made on Ebay ...

Plastic Broodlord Conversion! Simple and Effective!

Old School here with a quick post about my plastic Broodlord. I really want to try these guys out, but have no desire to pay $20 for a 46 point upgrade model. So I dug into the bigs to figure out how this was going to be done ...

Tyrannofex Conversion Complete! Happy New Nids!

Old School here ready to kick in the new year with a new tyranid: My first Tyrannofex! After enjoying a little too much wine with the wife and watching the ball drop, I decided to glue the final peices in place for this conversion, photograph it and post it for the new year, so let's have a look at how it was done ...
