Legion of the Damned box! I am going to make my own based off these classic models!

So, a long time ago, I picked up a box of Legion of the Damned Marines (a REAL long time ago) and they kind of sat on my shelf for a very long time.

I have had every intention of painting them, but never got around to it.

These days I mostly play Chaos and while I am slowly building a Space Marine army, I am building them to showcase my newfound sculpting and modeling abilities, so I am going to make my own Legion of the Damned Marines from a mix of current Space Marine Parts and some GS sculpts I have been working on.

My plan is to use th back torso from plast Space Marine Sprues, then use GS to recreate the fron of the armour (or shave the front torso to bear armour) and then add some ribcage effects, flames, skulls ect. with GS. I will also add those effects throughout the models on their legs (leg bones and flames) and their weapons. I am open to any suggestions, if anyone has done something similar or has some GS sculpting experience, so throw me some comments.

I promise to post up photos of My WIP Legion of the Damned as soon as I get to work on them, but if you would like to make this old box set your own, please follow this link and check them out! http://cgi.ebay.com/Warhammer-40k-Space-Marines-Legion-of-the-Damned-Box_W0QQitemZ160339145011QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2554f53133&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Chapterhouse Studios has teased some upcoming parts on their Web site. Once again, the company is putting together some incredible looking vehicle upgrade kits. It looks to me like a Salamanders Landraider kit may be coming soon. Check out the crossed thunderhammer design on the Side armour of that raider!

Our First Poll! What is your Main Army

Call it a census. Call it whatever you wish, but we are hosting Dark Future's first poll! What is your main army? Not your army on the side, not the project you keep in the closet (that may be the next poll), but the army that you actively play the most. Also, Give us some feedback! Tell me if you are mad that your beloved Kroot Mercs weren't on my list! I want to hear what our community is rolling into war with, so hit the polls and make your army proud!!!!

Another Plague Marine, fat and bloated!

So here is a couple photos of a Plague Marine I call Baccus,

He is very bloated and I think beckons to some of the older art in which the Plaguers are pale, fat and gross.

He is holding a putrified skull, which could be a blight grenade (I will get some closer photos for that).

On the back of his base, I have included his pet nurgling which is drinking up the string of goo that is draining from the backpack. I have yet to finish the base as I am looking for a wet-effect type substance that would make for a putrid slime look as if they were corrupting the landscape (as the plague bearers did in False Gods).

Anyway, let me know what you think and if anyone has some advice about how to get my hands on some wet effect, please let me know. I don't mind cheap OR expensive solutions ... I just want it to look great!

Death Guard Vindicator Conversion

This project began as just a vindicator that I happened to keep from a Space Marine Strike Force box. I added some spikes and a chaos symbol, but there was just too much about it that screamed 'Loyalist Dog!'
I never fielded it and it gathered dust for some months.
I ended up going to North Carolina for a few weeks on business and found the Hobby Chest, a pretty awesome Gaming Store and the people there really like my plague Marines. I started to get a lot of questions about them and it got the old wheels in my head turning.
I bought a huge pack of Gale Force green stuff and got to work on this vindi ... honestly I figured that if I screwed up it was no loss since I never really used it.
I started with the GS in the top hatch with the Nurglings, but then got a brilliant idea and added the bodies from a corpse cart to the Seige Shield and before you know it, I had something pretty exiting going on.
For about two hours a day over the course of a week, I would add some green stuff to it and pick away with a long scewer stick (the kind you eat Kababs from.) Now I am at the point where I think I am happy with the GS work and I think I will add some battle damage. Nothing too harsh, just some pits from loyalist bolter fire and such.
I would love some feedback and wouldn't mind hearing some comments or critisism. Let me know what you think.
You will see more of this bad boy in the future,

Plague Marines (first batch)

Alright, These are the first batch of Death Guard I have made.
I used regular CSM parts, but cut the belly out of the torsos and added green stuff. For some, I made a bloated gut and others were a little leaner. I then added guts and a thin layer of greenstuff over that to act as a 'skin'.
I finsished them off with some boils and blisters all over their body, armor and even their weapons.
For the guy with the skull face, I chopped half of the head off and modelled my own skull like face over it. If you click on the photo you can see more detail.
They were all dry brushed with a massive combination of browns, mustards, reds, greens and even a little tin bitz.
Let me know what you think of them and keep your eyes open, as I have many more to go. I may make a 'How to ... ' for them soon also.

Black Legion Rhino

So this is the first Rhino I painted for my Black Legion Army. I wanted the symbol on the back to look messy, as if some random heretic at the motorpool slapped it on there.
I used a symbol from a really old Warriors of Chaos box I had lying around for the icon on the front.
I love banner work, so I was pumped to make the scroll on the side with the little symbol and the writing. In case you cannot see the front scroll, it is the name of the rhino, "The Voyage of Hate"
I also painted the eye in the Chaos symbol on the back hatch and used some shiny red paint for the blood spatter on the front. I love to do blood spatter and it is pretty noticable on a lot of my work. As always, let me know what you think.

Black Legion Marines

Here are some of my Black Legion Traitors! I am particularly fond of the guy with a bolter and a bolt pistol. My buddy like to call him Wyatt Erp.
The models themselves are finished, but some of the basing material has yet to be painted. Let me know what you think.

Review: Chapterhouse Studios, Salamander kits

Check this Chaplain OUT! And of course Check out the other gear in these photos. I recently purchased the kit to build this chaplain from http://www.chapterhousestudios.com/. I first found them on Ebay as I was looking into building a Salamanders army to play with, but then I found their products and a link to their Web site.
I found these photos here on the site and immediately started adding things to my cart. I got my stuff about a week later and the bits are beautiful!
The Storm Shields come without a hand attached and shouldn't be a problem to add to an assault termie or Librarian, though it will take some effort to fix the pewter Thunderhammer into the hands of a termie (this will require some skill and a pin vice ... err, maybe some extra parts too.)
I also got a rhino upgrade set for the Sallies. It includes the doors, top hatch, and some filler for the gaps in the front (all scales and drogons and flames mostly). This kit was in great shape and is made from resin ... so the standard cleaning and prep apply here.
The shoulder pads I received were all awesome, both the terminator ones as well as the standard Tactical ones with the embossed dragon head. The backpacks were also pewter and have a small Salamander logo on them.
My one complaint is that the Powerfists were a little big for my taste, but they may find a home with my Chaos Marines.
All in all, I would buy from them again anytime! They also carry Iron Snakes shoulder pads, assault packs, Inquisition gear and much more. Check them out! You will not be dissapointed!
In the future, look for my WIP project log on the Salamanders, I plan to build the chaplain soon, though first I need to move to Michigan (work), so it may be a little while. In the meantime, I plan to introduce you to my Chaos Space Marines!
